Toe, this is *not* the best community to bash apple in ;)

(Especially not now that we run windows just as well as any PC. Makes for a really bothersome lack of anti-mac arguments ;)

"What was that? No games for macintosh computers? You might want to come over here and take a look at how I'm running Oblivion at perfect speed on high video settings in windows on my MacBook Pro"...  :p )

And now, so do I ;)

I can happily report that Darkwind runs excellently in Leopard, viKK and Sam. In fact, it actually seems to even run a bit faster than it did in Tiger.

Of course, it is hard for me to tell, since there was almost virtually no lag in Darkwind before Leopard on my MacBook Pro, but there is just a certain... smoothness to everything that is very subtle, but unmistakable once you discover it.

I suppose it is thanks to the reworked OpenGL code and Core technology of Leopard, or perhaps some secret, sneaky work on Sam's part, ensuring that Leopard users will immediatedly feel drawn to Darkwind ;) (That would be especially impressive, what with Sam not having a mac of his own and all ;) ) .

Regardless of which, the game feels more smooth.

And yes, Leopard is worth the hype, in as much as any OS is worth any hype.

Sam owns a Mac Mini, and he has been an Apple II user a long time ago.  :cyclops:

I must have misunderstood him then. I seem to recall him saying something about not having a mac to test Darkwind bug fixes on.

Apple II, you say? That is *very* respectable. Proper mac nerds like you and me, viKK, must pay our respects to someone who remember what it felt like to to handle 5¼-inch floppies ;)

It doesn't mean the Mac is always available for that purpose!  ;)

Hey I do remember too... I'm a bit older than Sam! and Apple IIe version is still something I would like to have, just for the love of it.

I handled 7,25 inch floppies BTW, which are much more larger...

Heh. It was Linux I said I didn't have a machine to test on, Ayjona I think it's just a case of your memory being mistaken. I do have a Linux machine now too, but I still didn't get around to testing on it ;-)

Yes, it spends most of its time playing Road Runner cartoons for my 4 yr old!

I guess you're one of the lucky ones Ayjona, I would recommend that mac users wait till the bugs have been ironed out of Leopard before upgrading  :p

(p.s. a good opportunity to register my interest in Linux darkwind testing  B))

You would have to prove your interest in playing the game first, Jim!

Heh, Leopard is counted among the most bug-free OS releases in computing history. A hundred users (among the vast thousands of Leopard upgraders) receiving a blue screen of death because of their steadfast refusal to use the Archive & Install updraging option after having cluttered up their system with custom drivers, frameworks and deep-system options does nothing to deter me from using it ;)

@Sam: Aha! Usually, I have a very sharp memory, being capable of impressive mnemonic feats such as being able to remember what I had for dinner tonight, any appointments made during the last five minutes, and the name of my close friends and relatives. It seems to have failed me this time, though.

Any chance of either you spiriting away that Road Runner Mac (or your son exchanging cartoons for coding) to look at the list or persistent mac bugs? ;)

@viKK: 7,25 inch? Damn. I'll never work up the nerve and courage to even fire at you in game now ;) Satisfy my curiousity... what was the first computer you used?

Texas Instruments Ti99/4A, it was released by the ages of the ZX80.
It ended fried up, I still own it though. I'm also very familiar with the ZX Spectrum a friend of mine owned, and I made my first drawing with it, through lines of code. It was a simple phone box for an adventure game.

Then I switched to the Amstrad CPC464, Atari 520ST, and finally the Mac (1990), as I immediately fell in love with the OS (Os 6.5, with MultiFinder option!).
During that time I had of course related experience with DOS. Amstrad was using CP/M.

During my professional course, I have worked with VMS and Irix operation system too.

The 7.25 inch floppies I mentionned were used on a prepress system ? a good old one, with tags to draw pages, and no previews ?, there were also very large (50 cm diameter) removable Hard Drives. That was extremely noisy and was operated in a special room.

Ok, I upgraded the iMac to Leopard today.
Darkwind is running really fine on it, without any Java problem to report (sorry Jim, I know you certainly are very disappointed ;)).

It was also a good opportunity to perform a complete backup of my data.
