Hi all.. apologies to those of you (on Facebook) who I have already asked about this.. but I have been working on a 'social racer' game, called Musclecar Online. I'd like to invite you to test the game out:

http://www.psychicsoftware.com/MusclecarOnline/

https://www.facebook.com/musclecaronline

I'm planning on distributing a very short survey to testers in the next few days. I haven't finalised pricing, but am considering something like $2-$4 for the PC/Mac version. Testers will get it for free of course.

http://www.psychicsoftware.com/MusclecarOnline/cover_image.jpg

The game uses some car skins from Darkwind : I have credited the authors of these where I can recall, but please let me know any I have missed, or if you're one of the authors and you want to discuss use of your skin, let me know!

Reminds me a lot of Deathrally.

Fun little arcade game though. Will probably play with it more over the coming days.

Thanks guys :-)
Yeah, at its core it's a classic oldschool top-down racer like deathrally.
I think the social versus-ghost thing is quite original - it allows you to race against specific friends as well as random people and (when there's enough playing) automatically divisionalised opponents.

Trying to get it running on ubuntu netbook. (Eeepc)

First it booted but i could only hear music (i suspect the window spawns outside of my screen.)

Then I edited the s3dclient.cfg file. Changed fullscreen to =1.

Game booted just fine. registration worked. Could click race of the day.
Here I get the same problem as with DW. The game doesnt fit the screen because Ubuntu has a top bar and always a wine top window bar before game shows. In DW I just mostly miss non-essential stuff. In this game I can't see the bottom game controls when choosing a vehicle, but I see the rotating phoenix.

Changing whatever windowreshight=500 doesnt seem to change anything in fullscreen.

with fullscreen=0 I still only get the music.

Edit: Managed to turn my screen sideways and then upside down and then back and the game window somehow hopped to max bottom view instead of max top. Game is still too high and I could now change cars and skins but I can only guess there is a GOGOGOGO button somewhere at the bottom.

My max screen resolution height is 600 pixels.

I run DW on my netbook and have/had the same screen resolution issues when I first found the game. For a week I tried everything I could to get it to show properly on my uncommon screen size, I ended up making do watching Asytra's "let's play" series on DW to hold me over. It was very frustrating to be stuck watching the game you are seething to play. When I could stand it no more I found my solution- I hooked up an external monitor to my netbook, viola, full screen resolution! It's not the most elegant solution, a laptop with a monitor, but I can play DW, and now musclecar online, so what do I care?

If you let off the gas the car slows down way to much, it should coast more. (did that to me using phoenix)

Racing the ghosts is like racing the AI on super speedway.(phoenix)
Symphony more manageable and coasts better than phoenix.

Scraping the wall in the slightest slows the car to a crawl, grabs the car like velcro even in straights. (phoenix) Symphony seemed to hand walls better.

Top down view seems to high, cars look real small at higher res.

Due to top view being so high, especially with high res screen, if ghost cars are intermingling with yours, it's hard to tell who's who or what you are doing if all the skins are the same. Multiple basic skins should be offered first, with better ones later. To many locked skins early on

Needs weapons to keep it interesting, like deathrally. I know not possible with ghost racing.

I do agree with this guy. Nice lightweight app. Sam, kinda cool.
With a few guns, forward oriented, could be renamed "muzzlecars online" instead. ;)

the coasting thing is a good point I think LF, and brakes seem too sensitive maybe (at least on a stock Pho). I find so far that letting off into corners is better than braking, but then Im not that good.

I noticed today I lose a lot of speed on straights when trying to adjust my line a bit, so its a bit hit and miss if Im lined up for a long straight as to whether or not I can keep speed up. As soon as I turned a bit, I scrubbed off speed.

Maybe there could be some coin pickups for good cornering or something.
