Event Number: S641305

Sam Has been notified of this. It has been used by Vets in the past and covered up. It has been Threatened to be used against players in PvP to "Red your entire gang at no risk" to the attacker (which I assumed was simply bragging until I learned the truth.)

THIS BUG could be a GAME BREAKER! It needs fixed. Below are the details without going into HOW to cause it to happen:

This scenario, if we have an influx of steam players, could become a huge problem.

This could be done in MORGAN where the 5 ganger cap could be circumvented and a player could roll a 20 Car scout with 80 Gangers as crew (or more) without using a single "real" ganger

In my display example I had 20 cars and 63 crew.

Please note that I intentionally lost. There was no gain (an as such it does not fit the criteria of using a bug for personal gain. ie: exploit) however it could be used for gain. With a larger playerbase who may not care much about the game it would be a game breaker. you could have 80 to 100 gangers in every town. You could scout non-stop to your hearts content without ever using your own gangers, risking anyones life or limb and make Millions of dollars without danger to your gang

(for the record I spent $165,000 on the cars fo rthis example so ther ewas certainly NO gain at all! lol,)

Wow that's amazing, how does anyone finds a bug like that and how come no one who has allegedly used it has been brought to task?

Pretty hilarious

I think you're being a bit hysterical. There is no way something like this could break the game. Setting something like this up requires 1) Someone to sacrifice a ton of vehicles and 2) someone to burn the faction sponsoring the escort mission. All to get a bunch of loser NPCs.

You said it could be used to increase your gang size. That is not true. It just lets you fill your own vehicles with warm bodies.

It couldn't be used to wipe out another player's gang because of CR balancing in PvP - I'd laugh if someone intercepted me this way - you aren't going to wipe me out with a bunch of NPC scrubs.

The 'fix' would mean players couldn't control NPC passengers, which I've used on taxi missions when my taxi-mobile overturned. It'd be extremely lame if a passenger on an taxi mission couldn't be convinced to hop out and help right the car to allow you to escape

I think what crispin was implying was that a player, even a new one, could load up cars with skilled NPC's and use them without any risk to his own gang members. To fight NPC or to pvp intercept other players.

Kind of like how gangers run away from their gang from starvation at a camp, but remain at a camp as pooled NPC's that anyone can use.

To intercept another player, you need your squad set with your own vehicles with your own gangers in them. Being CR matched, as Juris quoted, would not allow an unbalanced/unfair battle.

What I really want to hear is how you can use an NPC character, that is not a member of your gang, in an intercept squad? If this does exist, it definitely needs to be fixed.

It's not a game breaker, because I'm sure it can be fixed - thanks for the info, Crispin.

Well one way is to put a car in your squad, put in a ganger then put in a taxi client. Then go to the tavern and remove all characters from vehicles. now go back to your squad and your car will have only the taxi client in it. add the second taxi client and intercept or challenge another player. it works.

Another way this has surfaced was with the login log out issues. I had a squad set to join, and went back to the lobby to get more details. Someone said something about a forum post so i clicked on the forum button in the lobby and went to post a reply. when i did it said i was not logged in. So I logged in, replied, then went back to the other tab and joined the squad. problem is now the first tab was logged out and it caused me to join the squad as a NPC which gave me a list over over 77000 NPC's sitting in SS. Couple days later I caught sam in the lobby while he was working to fix the login issues and told him about this. but i guess he was distracted and didn't remember. He probably gets bombarded with PM's when he joins the lobby.

yet another way this happens is by taking a escort mission then logging out and going to the squad. I was told about how to do that from damon angel 4 years ago but never got it to work

This is the one St Crispin PMd be about today.
I didn't manage to reproduce it myself (something about being partially logged in I don't quite follow) however I have put in some extra security checks when adding characters to cars, awaiting him to retest it for me

Yes, the joining squad while logged out failed in the last couple attempts i had made.

I still have 1 squad that the NPC is a member of. I will test that once it arrives in BL. more in next post.

Checked my escort mission that was sitting in SS. was still able to see the list of all the NPC's but when i attempted to add to vehicles, it just dropped them back out. however this has caused a additional problem...

Now any NPC's that were sitting at camps can not be loaded, which means they just sit around and consume food/water. This should be fixed to allow access once again, or to make them not consume anything, or just clean house and remove all NPC's from all camps. This I know can be a touchy subject cause many camps have NPC's resulting from firing gangers and from runaways due to starvation. Camps use them to assist in camp defenses, but camps also need to be able to access them in order to get them out of there if food reserves become an issue.

When my NPC active squad arrives in BL i'll check it , if thats fixed i'll post about it and remove them from my squad.

... more to come...

To reproduce the escort mission, I used two computers. One logged into the website, and the other one not logged in.

On the secondary computer I would just have to go to the tab for squads and select search squads, then type in the squad ID number from the mission. As I said this doesn't allow gangers to be added any more but will still cause lag when people try to load that list of over 77000 NPC's so maybe you should disable the dropdown menu selections on the website until after a player logs in. If you do this, then a player who is not logged in, the only things that can be done are stuff listed on the side menu. Might be a good idea to do this also to prevent future DDoS attacks through the web client.
