Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing (using the proper IMG tags, not the broken attachment system)?
You can also email it to me, using address from my profile, thanks.

Did you make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date?
It might be worth changing from OpenGL to DirectX rendering.

My drivers are up to date, first thing I did... How do I change from OpenGL to DirectX? In the lobby? Since I only have the option to change to D3D...

Do other 3D applications work ok?

Have you tried some sort of benchmark tool to test your graphics card (I remember http://www.futuremark.com was one with free versions).
There's also specific tools to test for artifacts you could look for to test your card with.

I don't know the exact steps for doing it in vista but in XP there's an hardware acceleration slider for some hardware components that occasionally helps with this kind of weird problems (on xp it's under display properties - settings tab -advanced - troubleshoot tab)

Mike, it's definitely nothing related to Java, the game client is in C++ not Java.

Eh ok, everything is not dandy in DirectX either... No artifacts, but the cars are missing their textures and the ground is getting some sort of wierd mud-looking texture instead of the normal one... But, atleast I can play now :)

That's driver related, for sure.
Maybe we will find a trick to fix that someday.

I'm moving this bug report into the windows section, as it seems more related than the general bugs section. :)

I've been testing Darkwind on my windows 2000 machine, with hand tweaked ATI drivers. (See other post in this section for further info).

I'm experiencing the same glitches than Vainviper; and in D3D, vehicles are missing the textures, has he reported.
So, we can admit, it can be reproduced. :stare:

I had to reinstall DirectX 9 today on this machine for some reason, so I will check if my other games that were running fine before have been affected too.

A solution I posted in an other topic:
Quote:
Here is a solution to this problem:
Quit client with graphics set in Open GL.
Edit Drive:\darkwind directory\darkwind\client\prefs.cs

And change these line from "0" to "1":
$pref::OpenGL::disableEXTCompiledVertexArray = "1";

$pref::TS::UseTriangles = "1";

Save file.

Delete the "prefs.cs.dso".

Relaunch client, enjoy!  :cyclops:

Beware, switching to D3D should reset the values and you will need to edit them again. ALWAYS set OpenGL first in display options, quit, edit and relaunch.

Since it is integrated into the client as clickable options, it is really easier to fix.
I've been told many glitches were fixed in latest drivers release, either from ATI (8.10) or Nvidia (don't know the version number, sorry); so if anyone feel bold enough to spend time checking this, feedback would be welcome.
I personally don't change drivers anymore once they are working with games I kids play.

I've just experienced this one myself after upgrading my graphics drivers to a newer set.

EDIT: Appears i have a similar card to VainViper. I've tried D3D mode, it just crashes, so I'm stuck with OpenGL.
