I wholeheartly agree on the SS > ELMS > GW skill-training-wise that will really push people to move out of SS.

Also maybe paired with some kind of "permanent gangers" in cities you have had as Home towns, so if you leave SS for Elms you can have 3 extra gangers in SS, so you can always help people in "easier" towns (3 guys = 1 car crew).
You could even roleplay it as moving to a town costs a few $$$ to buy some barracks so when you move you leave some guys in care of the gang properties - AND you have to always leave 3 guys there minimum.

Something to minimize the impact of having the player base spread around the map instead of "mostly" in SS so everyone can have some presence in his "old" towns to help people, do town events...

This confuses me...the people who wont leave SS complain because others don't leave SS.

Move your crews down south and get stuck in!

And Tez nails it.... ;)

"I wholeheartly agree on the SS > ELMS > GW skill-training-wise that will really push people to move out of SS. " - Effy

But WHY?
When I was a newer player I wanted to see the world!!!
So
I did that.

Meh.

The maps are pretty.

I used to scout down south.

This is also the point where the game became more work than fun.
So I don't do it.
I don't want it nerfed, I don't want it made easier.
None of that needs to be changed.
Just because "I" didn't find it fun doesn't mean squat.
Push me to move back down south?
Go ahead, try it.
Ain't gonna happen.
Because I want to have fun, and that's just not MY kind of fun.
Apparently, since the towns are so barren, it's not a lot of OTHER peoples kind of fun either.

I don't really want people FORCED to go south because OTHER PEOPLE have decided that that is "in their best interest to do so".

And I'm seeing that mentality.

If it's so much better, then YOU go do it.
Play YOUR game.
Mind YOUR business.
If other folks want to, they will.

This is a thread offering ideas and clues to the game management about why SS is "crowded".

It's up to the people to play the game the way they want. And nothing we say will make them move, if the game management thinks everything is fine and having most people stuck in SS (as it has always been i guess), nothing will change. If they want/have the time to make some tweaks, they can explore new possibilites of their game.

In the end there's no clear cut about "what" makes people stick, like a game and keep playing. These proposed changes (as any) could damage playerbase, or they could help grow it.

Yes, there's people "scared" to leave SS (mostly newer players), so what?

What are you proposing? Having a script that all 6 month-old gangs are automatically moved to GW and forbidden to go back SS?

Or if you think everything is perfect as it is, just say it, it will help everyone to understand each other perspectives of the game.

Posting confused messages will probably add more confusion.

I just don't get why people don't move. When I got sick of SS and it got too easy, I moves my crews to GW. When that got easy, I moved them to BL. If people want to stay in SS that's their choice and we shouldn't penalise players who wish to do so.

The incentive to move south has always been there: more training, (some) easier maps, rare loot and rare hardware that the NPC's sell. In about 6 weeks I bought about 8 3.2 V8's from GW NPC's. In BL it's not uncommon to build Buzzers with HP points. I find that the SS desert maps among the hardest in the game with the low grip and even less natural cover.

I told Hati when he and his country blues band moved to GW, people will come to offer to scout with you. Especially when you brag about the training, the loot and the VERY fun times and stories you get when you move to the harder towns. I have fond memories of a lethal return we had, we lived by the skin of our teeth and took down in excess of 40 cars in both the main scout and the return with 4 direct damage cars.

GW has excellent loot when you have high famers, I've looted a Buzzer there and I have seen a laser once. And when you can reliably take down GW max famers, you're ready for BL. And BL has easier maps and better loot.

Get stuck in.

;) I hold gangers in every town. It lets me watch the markets and compete in events if I choose.
I have scouted in all areas to different capacities. Every area brings new challenges.
I feel each player should explore but where they settle is personal and even then settling can be temporary as you may wish to let your war parties wander.
 Lots of great points made in this thread. Let your gang drift about and settle where 'YOU' want.

My guess about why there's people that don't move is because they are already struggling to survive in SS.

Now that i'm bringing my first recruits close to level 100, i see there's almost no gain in skill. So i have started crosstraining to bring more skills to 50. When i reach 70-80 in gunnery and large guns there won't be anything for me left to do in SS.

You can check people's gangers and see for yourself. Most people stuck in SS are full of new recruits, they are struggling to get past SS difficulty level.

Today i just had my weekly share of slavers in SS (S1035659), as always out CR'ed and outskilled (stats-wise). Had i got that encounter in an open desert map against sniper 4 specced guys with some chasers... and what could have i done? Run and getting caught anyway? Stay while being sniped from afar from superior enemies? Hide under a slope and go for a dogfight 2v5?
This encounter strength is enough to easily wipe 2 months worth of training on any not-so-new-player.

And tell the guy that lost everyone to "Get stuck in" and go GW.

you can always stay in ss just use your newer gangers, when you venture to another town bring some decent gangers, maybe not your best till you master new town maps, but still fun to learn new things, for a tuffer challenge try using a good crew mixed with some newer gangers, if you can skill them up in a new town great now thats 2 places you can train up crews

Of course I tell you and anyone else to "get stuck in". There's a handful of gangs in GW and BL who I know have offered other gangs to come down and scout and have even offered free hardware if you take them up.

My concern is I feel this game is too unforgiving even in the starting town.

Look at Hati Tez mentioned, he loves this game and has spent lots of time playing and thinking how to make it better. I really loved to see him move GW and trying to get everyone on the wave.
Look at his gang now. I don't know what has happened, but it has clearly been completely wiped. And he was a VERY engaged played. That's dishearting to me.

When 1 hour ago i saw Cillit Bang & Generous Jackal being 3v7 against slavers (S1035843) in SS and getting beaten to pulp, i feel game is not letting new people stay in the game, if you once a week get half your new gang wiped... how are you supposed to build a gang?, to get attached to your guys?.
And this time he was not even going alone... something all players can do on most games, deciding to play solo.

That's why i'm making this solo muscle scouts guides, so a new player can try to survive by himself. As game currently is i'm seeing lots of new people getting beaten by the "random awful spawn" and getting it's best guys wiped. And that concerns me.
I really wish every player that joins DW has the guts and will to learn how to stay alive in this game but not everyone has the same tastes. I feel we could target a broader audience giving an easier place to learn where new players are not wiped weekly as is currently happening in SS.

As there's a lot of factors in play when it comes to scouting, I'd be wondering what skill level their scout was and which chassis the scout was in? That alone can be huge in helping to even the playing field, especially in SS.

I'm not saying that they did anything wrong. I'm just looking for all the info.

Are we giving this information to all players? Whether his scout level is enough or not for the scout? That the chassis he is currently using is not the best for him?
This game has a steep learning curve. When you have the knowledge you can "play" the game.

Rev, i don't "want" to push anyone anywhere, and i know changing current balance may push people off, i said it on my first post of the thread. And the people pushed off can be the core vet playerbase that i wish game development listen and keeps them happy, as i wish the game to keep running.

So giving our feedback to them will help them taking a decision. You really care about this change?, that's what these forums are for, you say it, interested people listen.

I also deeply hate how the world and people mentality is changing to a "give-me-everything-fed-on-a-spoon" but that's how the world ticks and sadly we cannot change it so easily.

Take a look at everyone typing on this thread... and how many years ago this player joined?, that's what troubles me.
