Leave the Irish Prez out of this. Unless Sam takes away the ability to post a sniper on a hill off the back of this https://static3.hotcarsimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/2020-Suzuki-Boulevard-M109R-B.O.S.S-3.65-sec-via-RideNow-Powersports-Chandler.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=740&h=555

Then we get him involved.

Loving the look of the Unity sample, Sam.

Thanks Neko!
We're working towards a kickstarter for this.
Definitely thinking of putting pvp challenge options into it, btw.

Looks really cool. Looking forward to seeing DW2 come to life.

I understand it's primarily going to be a single player game with possible PVP elements, Will there be multiplayer PVE like in the game we have now? I prefer solo scouts, but occasionally do like to have company.

Thanks! Yes, PvP and PvE are within scope. What I want to avoid is making another persistent-world/MMO game with the huge baggage that brings. I have a bunch of stretch goals worked out for the kickstarter.

Yeah, I know (and the MMO model does have its strengths)  :-)
I don't want to remake the same game, I want it to be a bit different and hopefully a bit less niche and definitely more polished. Thus.. keep the scope more manageable.

Ah, but it definitely could be 'roughly' the same game, with a modern game engine and all of the extras bells and whistles that it brings.

A lot of the same things that gave Darkwind all of the hugely positive reviews and such that scroll by on the website still exist.  How many turn based car games are out there?  Out of those, how many give as much customization as to what DW gives?

I'm imagining Darkwind, jumped up to a much more modern style, thinking some XCom 2 type of combat mechanics (Cover, overwatch, etc), turned up to 11, without the grid.  Eve Online/Albion Online style of economy (Both have STRONG player-run economies).  The list goes on and on.

Sam, I have Unity and C# experience.  Color me very interested, if you're looking for help.

I'd just be happy to have Darkwind as is but running on a single machine for single player mode.

I can already wait out indefinitely solo (so I can fit the game in when I have time rather than having to play to other peoples schedules). Hell is other people :)

The AI is already good enough for me (and I suspect the majority of noobs). If that was tweaked as a regular patch as time went on (or could use machine learning to counter player tactics) then that would be a bonus.

The ability to conduct camp activity without the politics would be good. I'd like to be able to operate in an economy that was based on supply and demand rather than player caprice. Frankly I'd be happy to have the "trading" element removed entirely. I can ship freight/mail from town to town to make a profit rather than buying in one town to sell in another (which is really hard to make work). As long as I can buy components, supplies for my people and any camps I might build and fix stuff I don't need an economy. Make stuff different prices in different towns for colour by all means, but keeping it simple will result in less economy exploiting.

An uplift to the game engine would be nice (and the Unity demo looks very tidy).

The ability to play with a friend in arena style events (so the rest of the game world would remain a local instance) would satisfy my occasional desire to play with other people. We used to be able to challenge other players to "pink-slip" one-on-one events outside the walls of Somerset as well as in town arenas which would be a welcome addition.

The ability to properly "way path" other vehicles would be handy as currently I can't get anyone I escort to do anything other than drive to their deaths. That would make multi-vehicle solos more enjoyable.

Sand box definitely. The training missions, regular missions and mail runs gave me enough story (they are ways of generating income and experience, not the goal of the game in my view). Occasional special missions of the type that gave occasional bonus rare equipment would be helpful but not essential.

Bikes and Lorries can remain expansions in my mind (other than possibly as NPCs). Lorries are something for camp owners and that is because camps are factories. I am not sure why they exist so far from towns that they need them (as this goes against the logic of bandit infested hinterlands).

The main things for me is to be able to buy it once and play it to death. The current subscription model is a real turn off. I'd be happy with the option of buying DLC - maybe in the basic game you get SS, GW and EL and the maps between them. Other towns and the trade options could be DLCs. I could then exhaust the options in the "beginner towns" before upgrading to the harder towns when I have skilled gangers. Camps could also be DLC. This model has kept me spending on the Fallout series for the last several years. It doesn't feel like pay-to-win.

I know these aren't the bits that hardcore PVP players want, but they already have Scav for that (assuming they even play it). I think the numbers show that isn't the route to mainstream adoption (and that is what might bring people to the on-line game).

Looking forward to the Kickstarter.

Thanks everyone, your support is important to me :-)
No-one understands turn-based physics-controlled car combat as well as DW players.

We've been making some nice progress with the campaign story, concept art and initial maps by the way. I'm itching to show stuff, but it's best to wait until the kickstarter page is ready.

Any updates on progress at all Sam? As per the previous comments, it certainly looks promising.
