I don't think death rallies work quite like the designer intended.

I get the vision of cars flying over dunes yelling Yee Haw and going pell mell with guns blazing, racing as if their lives depended on it for the final gate.

Instead, we get a full on combat at gate 1 with the winners of the combat cruising through the gates.

Don't get me wrong, those combats are fun and I have a nice idea to keep something similar, but this is about the Death rallies and how they really aren't races at all.

Here is an idea to make them more race like. Instead of having guns turn on after a certain amount of turns, have them turn on after the first car passes through a certain gate. That gate can be random and a surprise. One race it might be gate 1, and another it might be gate 4. Nobody knows until it happens. (I would suggest not having it higher than gate 4).

What would happen is people would bring fast cars and actually race for the gates. Trying to get as far away from those FEs before the guns came on.

I don't know, it might not work, but it would be worth a few test events to see.

I have been arguing along this line for years, and at one time I talked to *Sam* about a variant.

It was along the line of just random the 10 gates no order. Each had a point value that degraded as you went through them.

10 for first through them, 7 for second, etc. THAT way you could madly dash willy nilly and fight at each gate, or that last gate.

Would be a Rally Scavenger hunt?
