Drinks were plentiful, but everyone was still in complete control. Side arms were at the ready and two well armed men stood at Darlin's back. There had been several attempts on her life over the past year. Some outright, some quite subtle. She was listening carefully to what the other leaders were saying. "It can't be done is what I told you last year. I told you that you were a fool to face him. Just let it die down and hope he doesn't take a full grudge. But I was wrong. Three legendary drivers, killed on the track." "Don't forget Riley!", interjected another leader. He was a true LEGEND, hold records that may not ever be broken. Fastest man I ever saw race. And you just killed him at a time trial! What a ballsy play." Kathleen drank in the comments. These same people were so afraid a year ago. Didn't want to be targets. Didn't want to 'poke the bear' that is the gang the Joel's Bastards. But that man, who leads that gang, ordered the wholesale murder of two of Darlin's best men, nay best friends. If he wanted a war, he was going to get one. Darlin had been fighting back against bullies her whole life. You don't rise up to lead 50 hard men in this hellscape without having a little grit. The most satisfying part was watching the old cretin getting wheeled into Dexter's by his minions for a drink, all the while sputtering about what a coward Darlin was for not facing him in a pitched battle. She wasn't a coward, but she wasn't stupid either. The day will come for a pitched battle, when the men and the machines are ready. "What say you, Mrs. Darden?" The comment brought her out of her thoughts. She heard everything they had said, and she replied. "This past year, the gangers from Joel's Bastards only won two of the seasonal leagues. That was because of you," She pointed directly at the young representative of the Interstate-82 gang, "and I, and many of these other fine folks here. We proved it CAN BE DONE! When he is met with fair odds, he loses! Now, we need everyone to throw in. Everyone rise up and challenge him in these leagues. He is a bully, and he is weak, and he is old. He turns 57 this year. I think he will die soon, and I want 'Ray Gun' to see his precious leagues slip from his old frail hands before he takes his final nap. This is the year! This is the time! Let's take back what is ours. Let's take back our leagues and the CoE, and run them fairly without teams and and without colluding. I want to shoot guns at my friends in a race and laugh about over drinks later, or drink one in the honor of the fallen who went out on their shields! He bullies other gangs during camp sponsorships, spending 100s of million dollars, not so much to get the sponsorships for himself, but to not allow other gangs a chance at them. Your master also was once all of our friend, until he backstabbed us. You make me chuckle kid. Look a few years back in COE when weekly it was the Bastards and Merry Men vs 10 other gangs weekly. We are used to this. We never did anything to these gangs, they just decided they didn’t like us because we were good at league events.
