While watching the Daytona 500, I noticed the strange look to the back of the cars. No longer are the big 'slab' air dam/spoiler used on NASCAR fast track cars.

For the first time since 1970 and the debut of the Richard Petty "Superbird", Rear wings have made a long overdue comeback.

No longer will close drafting be taking place because the 'void' caused by the 'slab' spoilers is not there. The wings are using aerodynamics instead of aeroFORCE to hold the rear end down.

It's an excellent addition that I think will make for closer racing and tactics will mean more to the race than ever before.

They've also changed the front spoiler and are using a 'splitter' now. I've watched the development and testing last season with mixed feelings. Without a doubt it does improve the aerodynamics of the cars. It does give them more of a Formula 1 / Can Am kind of look. I like seeing them on the track but still think they look kinda silly on the street ricers. Of course now they have a Toyota NASCAR to emulate....

Ya think Toyota had something to do with the body design?

As soon as NASCAR saw what the toy was doing, AND prepared to bring into the flock..... Well.... NASCAR had to make a change...

Wait till you see the BIG tail wings making a comeback!
OK........ Maybe not as tall as the Superbird, but they will make their way off the trunk/boot deck.
