Excess cash is being discussed currently.

I think the money should be used to precipatate a WAR not to stop one.
We have enough community spirit already .
Every one is 'brown-nosing' the newbs for potential allies
, the community needs some thing to fight FOR or fight WITH

I feel the fundamental issue is that people will not endanger their precious characters in open PVP.

What would happen if our characters were HEROES amongst men ?

By generous governance or or cruel warefare we can LEAD NPCs (*cough ex-pirates cough* into battle.

We already have all the resources/code done for this

Thoughts ?

Can we, slightly less heroic types, lead NPC pirates as well?

This strikes me as odd coming from the mayor of New Player Starting Camp.

Alternatively, the issue is that the players that want to PvP are not online at the same time so they never get to meet.

That's a lot of heroes running around; 40 (avg. max. gang size) x 100 (active gangs), and even more as the subscriber base grows

It sounds like you are looking for a game with a different focus than DW.  WarCraft or Age of Empires, but with armed cars perhaps?

I haven't gotten the impression that DW is supposed to be about building large armies for large-scale vehicular warfare.  It seems more like small groups of characters trying to eke out an existence in a wasteland.

Those are mine. :)

This suggestion is in no way associated with any of my in-game roles and would be counter productive to the camp, I am in. I have posted this in Suggetions area. I am trying help the massing forces 'break-out' of the current empasse.

The current camp scheduling system will resolve that issue - if it is the problem. But what will be the benefit from attacking camps with a possible loss of characters

Sorry, I meant Heroes as in leaders of men  That leadership could define the number of mercenaries who would follow you  and possibly that confidence and great skill could define a hero - who could also lead.
Mercenaries were my primary idea and they will not be neede till camp combat has appeared.

I think there's some important points being made by Coco here..

Definitely. One of the ideas behind camps was that they would be valuable enough to make people willing to fight over them. This can still be done... by phasing out the NPC delivery of hardware and forcing players camps to produce it, for example.

Daily, scheduled 'Gates of Somerset' battles have been suggested before, where you sign up as a defender or an attacker. I'd definitely like to work on this, when I have the time.

This cannot be overstated. I think many of the players here would enjoy competitive pvp combats, but the risks are higher than they are willing to accept, and the potential rewards too low.

I actually like the idea of mercenaries. The intention was always to have mercenaries help defend your camps: why not add them to regular travelling/scouting too? -- the stakes will still be high, you will still be risking your hardware or paying a high premium for the mercenary to supply their own. But you won't risk (many of) your characters any longer -- and that might be enough to encourage more pvp?

Would those be available for PvE too? I'd be willing to cut my profits on a scout or increase safety while travelling for paid NPC help.  :)

I love the ideas of mercenaries.

I think that once NPC-Specific reps are in, who you hire as a mercenary should raise or lower your rep with certain gangs.

It could be good, yeah, but once again, mercs are gonna make gangs have an even larger reach, and potentially be used in suicidal attacks to try and kill gangmembers. I don't like the no/low risk factor in a lot of the potential PvP setups with this.

Hell, perhaps to encourage PvP there could be someway to disguise our vehicles when we PvP scout, so that the player and gang attacking you is unknown, and the names of the characters is not shown, unless he's defeated and leaves bodies behind to help identify him. It'd surely encourage more banditry against players if people thought they might get away with it and no one be the wiser. All that really holds back PvP if you ask me is fear of public opinion and lack of high traffic in PvP areas.

There could be a cap on the number of mercs you can use in a squad: perhaps each 3 mercs need to have at least one core gang-member to keep them under control?

Yeah I understand Seiler's concern, we don't want people abusing them like they abuse the rental cars. But they are such a cool idea, I'd hate to see them not-implemented.

That's a good point. Maybe you lose rep. with the gang you hired the merc from, if the merc gets killed? When your rep. with them is too low, they stop hiring mercs to you?

That seems like a good idea to me. People aren't going to waste the water if the well is going to dry up. You could also adjust prices by rep. If they love you and you treat their people well: Discounts! If you throw them into the grinder: High hazard payment, and eventually no hiring at all.

I think it'd be cool to work with the NPC vigilante gangs, and I'm sure pirate players would enjoy the novelty of working with some of the more elite pirate gangs.
