The grey lorry moved slowly through the gates of town and parked immediately in front of Mezcals. Alex Welsh, the driver got out and began inspecting his ride.

The back roll-up door buzzed as the electric winch raised it. With that much armor on it the damn thing would be too heavy for anyone to lift..

"Daaamn!......That was a FREAKING blast!" said the wiry female as she rolled out from underneath the slow opening door. She was bouncing up and down waiting for her comrades to emerge from the Lorry. "Bobbin" Robin Rankin was her name. She earned the nick for her enthusiasm, not for the seedier idea of a sex crazed maniac.
Alex Welsh was standing on the right side of the lorry looking up at the logo emblazoned on the side.

"Bashers Ballistics" was painted brightly on the grey side of the cargo area. There were two neat bullet holes right where the dots for the "I" should have been. Robin joined Alex Welsh and followed his gaze and howled in laughter! "Menace, Otto, Ranger, Boulder!...... You have GOT to see this!" The nicknames she called were Dennis "The Menace" Wilson, Charles "Otto" Baughn, Alex "Downrange" Outland and Sean "Boulder" Holzer, respectively. These 5 were some of the best gunners the Gearjammers had on the roster.

"Otto" was the only one who spoke, "Damn, don't see that every day do ya!" He strod off leading the rest to Mezcals for their long awaited round of drinks. "Robin was too excited to stop jabbering now and the others let her go with the flow. They knew better than to try stopping her.

The group took one of the larger tables as Robin kept talking about the mission they just completed. "Two encounters and eight confirmed kills!...come on guys! Thats our all time best!"
"Otto" glared at her without saying a word and Robin shut up immediately. Charles Baughn was the leader of this expedition and all of them answered to him.

"Otto" spoke, "Robin, we just killed eight people out there! Yes, they were pirates, but some of them probably had families too. They damn sure had mothers and fathers that cared about them no matter how bad they were."
Otto handed the video tape to the bartender and waited for the confirmation slip. They sat in silence drinking until it arrived.

Otto folded this up and placed it in his logbook.
He spoke again, "Raise your glasses Gearjammers! Cyber took a big hit because of us. Hopefully Gateway will be a bit safer."

"Lets get the lorry fixed. Robin check the notice board"

They got up as a group and moved their seperate ways. They all had jobs to do.

The battered and smoldering pickup pulled up behind the lorry and stopped, followed shortly by a sedan and a fast-moving jeep, the last squealing and sliding to a stop.

?Great flaming zombies,? shouted a small, thin man as he ran out of Mezcal?s, ?What in the heck happened to you??

Climbing out of the sedan, an otherwise jovial looking man replied ?Bud, this woman is crazy! We?re just coming down from the hills when we spot these two Cyber Form cars just cruising the highway outside the gates. So Sandy says, well, I reckon we can get up on them before they even see us in their rear-views, and we?ll pass them before they can even turn to bear on us.

?Now, we could have turned around and waited in the hills without any of this being an issue, which is what I would have done, especially loaded down with all the goods we just hauled up from Badlands. But Sandy just floors it without asking, leaving Hugo and I to try to keep up.?

By now, a weathered woman steps out of the truck and surveys her vehicle. She runs her hand over the deep gashes on the roof, and the bent and twisted metal on the right side. Going over to the left rear, she looks down at a considerable hole in the side of the truck bed. ?Well, I could put my hand clean through this one.?

Bud gives Sandra a look of disbelief and says ?John, what the??

Turning to Bud, and letting his rage cool for a moment, John replies ?Well, those Cybers were in some pretty hot rides. One of them has this Vamp, shiny new paint job and all. The other is driving an old Merc. We get to about 50 feet, and they spotted us all right. They turned quicker than any of us expected, and then, well, look!?

Sandra interrupts, ?Aw, this is nothing. I?ve had plenty worse and driven away.?

John, nearly apoplectic, shouts back ?Worse? That merc opened up on you with an anti-tank gun! From not much more than a car-length away!?

?I?m here, ain?t I??

?Not through your doing!? Turning to Bud, John continued, ?So the merc fires this huge cannon, and nails her square in the left side. And look, that shot went clean through the bed and out the right side! And on the other side of her truck? Me, and it hits me. I just had this car fixed from the last shuttle to Badlands.

?To make matters worse, the impact flips her over, as you can see by the roof of her truck. Both Hugo and I are thinking she?s road toast at this point. But what happens? Her upside-down truck slams its side square into mine, and combined with the explosion from the cannon, flips her right back over again onto her wheels. So she?s back, still doing sixty plus towards the gates. At least the Cybers were only doing about fifteen, or we would have been goners.?

The jeep driver, still staring in disbelief, turns to Sandra and says ?You have got to be the luckiest S.O.B. I?ve ever seen.?

Bud turns to the woman and says ?Under what sun were you so possessed as to try something as crazy as that?? Pausing for just a moment, he continues, ?No, don?t answer that, it?s rhetorical. Come on, John, Hugo, we?ve got to get these cars gassed up and back on the road. We?ve got a schedule to maintain here. Sandra, get your truck over to the garage and start patching those holes. You won?t be able to make the next run back, and if we weren?t short on good drivers, I probably wouldn?t ever let you make another run back, but we?ll need the truck back on the road again too soon. And for heaven?s sakes, be more careful next time!?
