Rodney walked into Mezcal's, signaled the bartender for his usual, and headed to his table.

His table was off by itself a bit, and had a single chair next to it.

Rodney didn't want the grief from other chairs pestering him to sit on them, so he'd moved the extras away; if somebody wanted to join him they brought their chair with them, and took it when they left.

The serving girl brought him a platter of Wings and a mug of beer.

She didn't ask for payment which pleased Rodney since it meant Sandy hadn't cancelled Shooter's order.

Shooter had understood how difficult it was for Rodney to carry money, and had set up a standing allowance at most of the Northern taverns. The scrip and bits of metal that passed for money in Evan were worse than the little yappy dogs Mezcal's kept in the back (Chee-wah-wahs they called them, and turned into their signature 'Wings', although why they were called 'Wings' Rodney couldn't understand), a constant, high-pitched

that almost drowned out all the other voices clamoring for Rodney's attention...almost.

Rodney, and the entire group really, had been reeling following the betrayal by Shooter and Pathfinder, and the loss of The Gringo. Those three had been the backbone of 88 MPH for as long as Rodney could remember.

Rumor within the group had it that even the Boss had taken the loss hard. Rodney tended to believe those rumors. It would explain why the group had been stagnant for so long; nothing happened without the Boss's say-so, and recently he hadn't been sayin'.

Rodney looked at his beer in dismay. He hadn't been paying attention, and now the mug was empty enough to speak up, and compete with the remaining beer.

Rodney signaled the serving girl for a refill.
