Putting all the vehicle-ownership functionality in place is turning out to be a lot of work. I'd forgotten how tedious ecommerce websites were to write! I'm pleased with it though, it's all client-side as you're doing the shopping and configuring so the response times are great.

Apart from buying vehicles (which you can already do now), you will be able to buy/sell individual components. The concept is that each gang has a lock-up in each town, where they can store engines, weapons, etc. When you buy/sell components, you are transferring stuff between your lock-up and the mechanic shop.

Please note that although you don't pay for the use of your lock-up, there is a chance each night of burglary! Somerset of course is a reasonably lawful place... In general you are better off storing spare parts in the cargo spaces of your cars, and only using the lock-up as a temporary storage place as you buy components and install them in your cars.

In order to add/remove components from your car, you will transfer between cars and your lock-up. So the lock-up is a staging area between the mechanic shop and your cars. This solves some tricky issues such as what to do if you buy an engine for a car that already has one, etc.

Finally, damaged components can be fixed while still installed in your vehicles: just select your vehicles from the list you see when you visit the mechanic shop. Armour can be added/removed in the same way.

Related to this, I am making a few changes to gangs and their status.

New gangs will no longer be issued with any money to start with. A new gang will start with 'amateur' status and will only be allowed to enter amateur events (for which the racetrack will supply the vehicles). Amateurs won't be allowed to buy/sell vehicles or components.

Once a gang decides to go 'professional' they will be only allowed to enter professional races, most of which involve the gang supplying their own car (the prizes will be increased of course).

Alriiight! Vehicles can now be bought and configured in the mechanic shop.

The 3 options you will see are:
1. Order New Vehicle - a complete vehicle is built. Note that it takes a few days to build!
2. Buy/Sell Components - transfers vehicle components between the shop and your gang's lockup.
3. Install/Remove Components - transfers components between your vehicles and your lockup. Note that installing components in your vehicles can take some time.

In order to reconfigure a vehicle's armour, fix its damaged components and restock its ammunition, select the vehicle in the mechanic shop.

Note that stock levels (and prices) are dynamic and based on supply, demand and piracy. New stock is arriving at different times of the day and night. One of the reasons I decided to stop giving money to new gangs is to stop someone from creating a bunch of gangs and buying all the tyres the day before a big race... this is also where the amateur/professional idea comes from, in part.

You may also be wondering what kind of vehicles are worth buying right now.

There will be leagues running with different restrictions on the vehicles entering. I haven't decided exactly when these will start, but soon there will be a league running for 1 Litre engined vehicles only, and another league running with no engine size restriction. So Scoot can whup our asses in his new viper.

Incidentally, it will only be possible to compete in one league at a time. One-off events will be free for all.
