I checked around to figure the price of Windows Vista.
My ol' trusty PC's motherboard died about 10 days ago, and I was looking to put XP on my iMac, with Apple's BootCamp.
I'm currently running an emulator, but it lacks a few things I need to be really productive.

What a shock, I couldn't imagine a Windows system has become that expensive. Are they serious? Nearly EUR400? for a family edition?
That's more than twice the price of Os X! And I just noted it's not that much for a 5 users licence.
For around EUR100 more I could have the Os X Server version (up to 10 users connection), which comes with ftp, mailserver, firewall, and much more.
The unlimited Os Server edition is only EUR1,000.
And you guess what, this is including VAT of 19.6%

We all know it will come with all the usual bugs, Microsoft is so proud of! In fact, I'm hoping you won't get that much bugs for that price.
On the good news side: it is already reported to work on a Mac with BootCamp.

So, what are you waiting to buy a Mac?

vista needs massive amounts of ram and dedicated cpu usage, but it looks soooooo pretty and shiny :p, wait a few months to buy it tho so the bugs (most of em at least) get worked out. (you could do it the cheap...and free way >.> pirating! yo ho ho and a bottle of rum)

comp112: no piracy on my side. I don't say never because I did at the Atari time, nearly 15 years ago.

and I can't wait months, release of Darkwind is scheduled for April 2007, not 2008 ;-)

although, months are not enough to debug a Windows Os...

I'm running an OEM version of XP Home on my Mac mini with Bootcamp. It only cost me $125 CND with taxes and shipping.

Yeah, thanks Korivak, I'll get one version tomorrow and some RAM for the iMac.

I'll give a decent to Parallel Desktop, I tried it with NT4 I had, but well, that's an old OS.

I got Windows XP SP2, fully installed and running on the iMac now. It's certainly the best PC I ever owned at this time.
It feels strange to use this OS on Mac hardware, but well it is a necessity, so I couldn't skip that step.
What frighten me, is that I could do all the work on XP and never boot-up on Os X, as most of Darkwind develoment doesn't require much Mac stuff.

The chip of RAM was not at my reseller shop, so I'm still stuck with 512 mb of RAM, but as I will use Windows stuff directly on the Windows partition, it will free up Mac Os X memory usage, as I was using mostly emulators.

The good point is that it now opens up a lot my beta-testing range! G4, Intel Imac, Windows XP.
I'm covering most of our needs.
I feel very positive about that.

Don't bother buying crappy PCs anymore, buy Macintosh computers and a Windows licence, you will get the best of both worlds!

That's what I did. At first I was a bit grumpy about having to buy a copy of Windows, but then I looked at it a different way - even if I bought a full priced copy of Windows, it's still cheaper than buying a second computer for PC gaming. When I found an OEM copy of Windows online for $99, I was even more pleased. $600 for a Mac mini and $100 for Windows is a damn fine deal, since you'd end up spending more than that on an decent computer from Dell (a contradiction in terms, if you ask me). Sure, it's a bit lacking when it comes to graphics horsepower, but then most sub-$1,000 computers are. It still plays Darkwind and all my old favorites.

i HATE those commercials so much...they annoy me..I admit mac is good, but I mean look at windows also, they both have the ups and dones, one is easier to use, the other is harder, one is easier on your comp, the other isnt (as easy) on it, all in the end they r nearly the same thing :|
