Hello everybody. I'm nicholas from europe, 27 years old. I've first heard about this great game in a car wars thread on the codex rpg forum, checked it out on wikipedia and - now I'm hooked...

I've first gotten exposed to the wonderful world of comp games as a small kid back in '86 - our parents have bought a german commodore C-64 home computer to my borther and I kind of joined in the fun...

The next big evolutionary step was in the (for me) legendary summer of 1997 when we got a brand spanking new P-133Mhz. So I had the chance to play through most of the golden games of that wonderful era. My personal favorites from that time were Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries and... Interstate 76! I loved that game so very much and I still do - gimme my 432 CHAMP picard piranha anytime and I'll show you where it's at!

A few years back I got the rig I own now, this used P3-900Mhz with windows xp installed, I've gotten older and lost interest in action games. These days I mostly play strategy games, modded star trek: birth of the federation and jagged alliance 2 patched to 1.13 standard. I've completely forgotten the days when I've spent the afternoons cruised the dirt roads of texas in various armed to the teeth muscle cars, blasting my way through waves of re-spawning Creepers - the days of windows 95, Interstate 76 and my youth were long lost, never to return again...

Untill the day a certain Car Wars thread in the rpg codex forums caught my eye! :)

And so here I am. The Champ's back in bussiness, back in the desert, back behind the wheel of an armed to the teeth four wheel nightmare... right where I belong. ;)

"There is a breeze out here
That filters through the scrub
Over hills and down through long dry riverbeds
Across the Texas blacktop
It cools the skin and brings the most subtle song in the world...

To the ears of those who listen"

Funk... will even... the odds

Howdy folks, I am a 47 year old male living in South Carolina in the USA. I Am what you call a jack of all trades, I have done carpentry work, been an electrician, tried my hand at plumbing. I can do a lot of stuff but am not licensed at any of it.

I started out in high school buying and playing as many Avalon Hill games as I could buy. I think I still have most of them packed up in the attic. I started playing computer games on a friends Radio Shack TRS80. I moved from that to my own Atari 128 where the game data was on a cassette. When they started putting games on a floppy disc I broke down and bought the best double disk drive they had back then. I used to do a programing in basic making different types of games for the Atari. When I was in the service (Air Force Security) I really got into D&D and any other game I could find. I played hours and hours of Star Fleet Battles and still have the full set of rules, counters and data sheets. A friend got me into car wars and I played many hours of that also. I have played countless hours of computers games and really fell in love with X-Com. I got into Everquest when it first came out and played it for about 5 years. I have dabbled in may of the MMORPG's that have come out since then. Right now I am playing Pirates of the Burning Seas when not here. As a matter of fact the POTBS forums is where I heard about Darkwind.

I hav only been playing Darkwind for about 2 or 3 weeks now, I am still learning the ropes, and chains and guns and well everything. I praised this game so much to my society mates in POTBS thet several of then have downloaded DW and are going to try it out. HOpe to be playing this for as long as it is going on. I subscribed the second time I logged in because I really really like this game. I figure when I hit the lottery I will donate a bunch of cash to Sam's company so he can focus on this for a while and not be distracted by his teaching job.

Hey hey all! Ive been playing DW since December 2007, and Im a 36 yoa male from Central NY. I have always loved computers, owning a Commodore 64 back in the day and graduating to a PC many years later. I played alot of boardgames/rpgs back in the day also....D&D, Car Wars, Marvel Comics, Middle Earth.

Ive played alot of online games. I first started with Ultima Online. I played mostly on the Atlantic server and played a character named Longstrike (and Longstrike JR, a guy named mr and many others). I was in a few guilds there, OSD and was a founder of a small guild called RLV (Rising Lords of Virtue). I eventually retired and sold this account to an online acquintance so her son could have his own account. I missed the game, and bought another account, appearing as a character named Equalizer, who was one heck of a fencer. I eventually retired again from UO, giving this account to a father/son combo who I had met my first week playing UO, so they would not have to share their 1 account.

I started playing EQ, which I initially did not like. I eventually got into it, playing on Innoruuk? for a short period, but eventually moving to Rallos Zek the PvP server. I played alot of characters here, most notably the mage Miklos and eventually his sidekick Ciklos the cleric, owning 2 accounts and becoming a master 2 boxer. I was in the guild the Bloodstained Knights here, which was quite large for a while.

I eventually quit EQ and vowed to never play another online game, as they sort of burnt me out... But a few guys at work (Burnttoast being one) conned me into buying WOW, and I played numerous characters there on the Magetheridon server...most notably Longo the Paladin and Abc the Mage.

Kinda bored with WOW... I started to look and see what else was out there, and thought a car wars type game would be cool. Initially all I could find was that autoduel game that came out for the C64, and my computer skills lacked the ability to get that up and running on a PC. Then all of a sudden DW popped up on a google search, and shortly therafter Longo's Merry Men was created. I started doing arena combats and deathraces, where I met another DW newbie, SirLatte. We died alot together, i gotta say. You don't know how many times we sat out in the dunes, both waiting patiently as the pirates killed BOTH of our turtled borrowed marauders. I got Burnttoast to start playing, and was helped by the many vets in the game to keep me alive and show me the ropes, probably the single best thing this game has to offer.
Well thats my story...and I am sticking to it... :)

Ok i've been trying to dodge doing this for a while but might as well join in B)

My names Tony and I'm 19 years old, I live in Victoria, Australia out in the middle of nowhere and still half in school doing IT courses and helping out at my school with maintaining the computer systems. Ever since i got my first car (Mazda 929) and started to drive when i was 12 years old i had a sudden obsession with cars and a couple of years later i learned about the newest motor sport drifting. I had been looking for a online car game for so long and after finding a Wiki page one MMO car games and i saw a link to DW (sadly with my bad timing i found it just as they closed Beta testing). Once it came back online i joined straight away and got stuck straight away on the racing, soon after that i started to love all the features of DW (sadly after a couple of months playing computer issues stoped me from play for about 5 months which slowly killed me). Now i'm still here and still loving the great work Sam ad Vik do for us.

My name is Greg and I'm 30 years old. I'm originally just outside of NYC, but living in northeast PA now. Because you can afford a house and raise a family there on one income. As such, I have to drive at least 90 minutes each way to work as a SQL programer and report creator. So you will not see me online much.

I've got a wonderful wife and a 2.5 year old toddler. Having kids was the best thing I have done with my life.

I had 2 big hobbies growing up, games and car racing. I ran D&D campaigns and so forth, but the only PnP game I really enjoy is CoC. Especially the Delta Green setting. I ran what you would call a "deathracing" league with car wars in the summer of 99. Max HC of 2, Max weapon damage 2D, no dropped weapons, weapons active after 1/2 lap. Good times.

I love games with complicated rules, have a handful of AH games, used to play diplomacy competitively over the interwebs and have read the rules to SFB 1000 times but can't convince anybody else to give it a try.

I am also am a big fan of sim racing. It started with Indy 500 by EA, led to Nascar Racing 1 through NR 2003, and, the cream of the crop, Grand Prix Legends. I still race that game even though it is ten years old. For a more modern feel, I'll play a game like Rfactor. I think my 18 years of sim racing has taught me alot about racing lines and helped me excel at racing since I came here.

I don't follow Nascar, because the races take forever, there are 18 million commercials and yellow flags are thrown for no reason. That is why I follow F1. I started watching last year and have been amazed by Lewis Hamilton. Even his lap on Top Gear amazed me.

I found this game on Wiki just browsing around and I'm loving it. The last MMO game I played was a mud called Achaea that my wife and I played together on. She ended up being on the council of the guild we were a part of. My character had a pet falcon named Larry that I gave booze to all the time. So I picked Larry Falcon as my name here.

Hey all
Grew up in Texas, but live in Europe for several years. I travel a LOT for my (unfathomable geek-based) job, mostly in the US and Europe, and usually play a few different MMOG's to pass the time while I'm on the road.

Many years ago (25? jeezz) I used to play a blend of Car Wars and Aftermath with some Air Force buddies.  This game seems to line up a lot with what we were doing back then (and without all the hexmaps and paper!). Obviously when I heard about it, I had to try. And I like how it's coming a long.

If you don't see me online for a week or two, it's because I'm at home. That time belongs to the wife & kids, so the compy don't get turned on unless I'm forced with pointy sticks.

I guess I've hung around long enough that filling in my details makes sense...

I'm a Car Wars junkie from way back and have been a gamer for even longer. I stumbled across Darkwind from the blurb in the (now defunct, *sniffle*) CGW/GFW magazine and was thrilled because I've been trying and failing to implement something like this for as long as I can remember.

I reside on the east coast of the USA and settled in as a java developer after a 10 year stint as a fighter pilot for the USMC. I'm hugely addicted to Darkwind right now, but still manage to squeeze in a few hours a week on WoW and assorted other games.

wow all this stuff makes for interesting reading. and talk about a walk down memory lane!

i'm an old school gamer. first exposure was when my mother bought this "occult" book called a Monster Manual. i looked through it and i thought this is B.S., this thing is for some kind of game... some kind of really cool game. i hunted down the players handbook. that was so long ago the DMG wasn't even out yet.

also got into battletech, have played one of the most tedious games ever made - SFB, ruled at car wars of course. i love to design stuff and CW gave me plenty of options, plus the fun of fighting with them.

heh. someone mentioned a VAX. played some zork and a game called hack (i think - it had a little dog signified by a lower case "d" - that was graphics in those days!) on a PDP-11 mainframe. it was like a TRS80 only slightly bigger and faster. heh.

think i only got to see Xcom like once. loved mechwarrior 2 (i think it was) - "target is beyond inspection radius" and the old wing commander. one of my best gaming experiences of all time was from a wing commander mission.

been a GM, made my own games, etc etc. one reason i am so active on the suggestions forum.

been dreaming of a place like this for years.

blah blah blah

oh. almost forgot, since it's not a given on here. i live in the U.S., currently in Atlanta, Ga.

Time to update my profile.

So far, some changes happened in my life. Positive changes, but radical ones.

I've been a technical manager in the printing industry, with a 15 years background in prepress. I had a solid and strong experience in my field, from computer stuff (install, troubleshoot, network setting and more), to mastering and defining digital workflows as well as dedicated softwares. I have that natural skill helping me to handle and define working procedures with a good experience in ISO9000  environment.
I'm a pro in at least 3 proprietary softwares/workflows (they are generally bound anyway). Yes, I kick ass, truely.

But I was looking for a shift in my life. I've been missing too much growth of my first 2 children, and when Julie (3rd one, second daughter) was born, I was fired from a printing company I had recently joined. I decided to do the best to stay home. That included working as a freelance.
It did not work at all, and I finally stayed off 2 long years from the active life. That's how I joined Sam on the developpers team, I had enough time to comply, though for those wondering, taking care of 3 kids is really a lot of work.  :stare:

The situation could not continue that way forever, I had not won lottery. I was about to give up and consider selling the house to move somewhere and get back reluctantly on the saddle of printing business.
If you ask, I would rather prefer to work in an emergency department instead, that's real stuff. How can that bad looking packaging be so important, it needs me to work overtime everyday?

It was a time I was backed up by a work psychologist (thanks for her dedication) to help me define new job searches. I was confirmed my interest in communication was above everything else. Yes, me the shy guy, I could be as talkative as a woman in some cases.  :o

Finally I applied for a position (a 6 months contract), at a town nearby, 10 kilometers, as a street agent, in charge of billing wrongly parked cars.
I just jumped into a training and study of laws - and they are damn hard to read at first - and a lot of walking.

I did not only sign up because I have always considered police work - even if I'm too old to apply at present -, but the fact I would be outside was really something I wanted to. I was missing fresh air for too long time.

That's now 5 months, I'm working outside. I lost about 20 pounds, and I'm almost back at my weight of 8 years ago, before Naomi, our first born, joined the family. My physical condition is far better than ever, but I have to admit I feel tired on evenings.

We are a service of 3 agents, myself as a full time position and 2 females, with part times. One is on maternity leave (6th child, 5th girl...) Because, I'm working in a real administration and things are really really slow sometimes (and to make a long story short), we have been granted authorization to wear our uniforms 2 days ago.
We have been presented in a local newspaper, and we are almost ready to work. Did I say administration already?  ;)

For those keeping track of my life, the Land Rover 110 Station Wagon is back on the road again, and I'm using it daily to go to work. But it drained all our saved money to do repairs - and there are a few more to do.

My earnings have been cut by half, but we don't really care - relatively  speaking - because we are all happy with our new life. I'm really feeling right and without stress. For sure we need to financially secure our future, but we know it will be a hard time for everyone.

Okay, here it goes. I am a 34 year old medicaly retired SSG (Staff Sergeant) from the US Army. I have a wonderful wife and a 21 month old cutey of a daughter. When I was a kid I wanted to be either Han Solo, Indiana Jones or Max Rockatansky (from Mad Max). I spent hours in my room designing cars, characters and playing solo adventures with my Car Wars Deluxe set. This game has allowed me to live a little in my fantasy world so kudos to it!

I feel that I know some of you from all of the scouts I've gone on recently...

Anyway, briefly - my background is gaming in the 80's. Car Wars was my favorite. I've re-vitalized Car Wars somewhat with a podcast and PBEM games that have spawned other people starting their own PBEM games. I have had more fun in the last two weeks, though, that the last 8 or so years of PBEM'ing Car Wars.

But enough of that... I am a happily married early 40's guy with two teen-age sons. I love my family very much and they are my priority.

I see that some of you are also musicians... I started playing guitar when I was 14 and was in a local bluegrass group at 15. I eventually picked up the banjo, mandolin, bass, etc. and still play occasionally. My oldest son is also a musician.

That's brief, but it'll do for now. Looking forward to meeting more of you as time goes on!

Hello all, and what a lot of reading to get this far :D. I live in the South-East of England, and I am in my late thirties. Happily divorced and reunited with childhood sweetheart with a 3 1/2 daughter who is going on 40. I served in the armed forces for a little over 14 years and upon leaving became a mature student, studying law, which I completed last year. I currently work in security, and will do so until I can find the huge amount of money needed to pay for my postgraduate studies.

I have been gaming for a long time, starting on an old Atari 800 (iirc) with SSI games and Origin's Autoduel. I deeply enjoy playing turn-based games, through all the x-coms, Fallouts (the new uses a pause and order system so it shouldn't be too bad I hope), Battletech (including Megamek), Car Wars etc etc. I currently get to play a boardame/wargame once a week with friends, and prefer skirmish games to the massive Napoleonic type games - I particularly like Stargrunt 2 and any Peter Pig rules (especially AK47). I have written, playtested and demonstrated rules, with a heavy emphasis on participation games at wargames shows up and down the length of England.

After finding out about this site through another dream come true for me (megamek) I have been deeply hooked, not only by the game but by the community. The community here really does set DW apart from the rest for me. I have also found the campaign mechanics very interesting in how there is, what I consider, a good blend of co-operative and competitive gameplay.

Many thanks to Sam and the rest of the development team for making a long held dream a reality through your hard work and dedication. Oh, and Sam, my hattrick team goes by the same name as I do here, so if you fancy giving me a drubbing drop me a challenge.

During what time I find spare I spend time working with the local free law clinic (yes free lawyers - stranger things have happened at sea) and working as a volunteer with a Credit Union.

No doubt there is more, but why are you here, reading this when there are scouts to take me on! Good hunting.

I'm in my late twenties, I live in Exeter in the south west of England, and I'm a massive fan of games and films that include cars, guns, apocalyses, etc.

I love playing online games but find that I cannot compete in contests of reaction speed or accuracy, so Darkwind scores a big plus there because of it's turn based nature, which somehow doesn't detract from the excitement of the scenario.
