Of course. Either that or I will have to inform you of your incorrectness and champion my opinion.

Everyone has their own opinion. Some opinions are more correct than others.

I'm Ayjona, a 26 year old writer, journalist, singer, actor, and fighter. It's a bit harder to pin down my point of origin, but as long as I'm on an airplane to either Cape Town, South Africa, or Stockholm, Sweden, I feel as much at home as I'm ever going to. I would have included Harare, Zimbabwe, on that list, since I grew up there partly as well, but currently, Zimbabwe is not a very welcoming country, for many tragic and sorrowful reasons. Norrköping, Sweden is where I first saw the blinking-neon-light- and industrial smoke-coloured light of day, in either case.

Many years ago, I was infected by the romantic misconception that fantasy bards are really, really cool, so I do my best to live like one, which includes trying to get by on with and charm alone (which eventually results in a fridge that is a very lonely and desolate place indeed), act dashingly and swashbucklingly and rogue-like (which usually only often attracts the attention of the police or earns me a good beating by nearby boyfriends) and earning my daily fixes (be it food, women, computer games or the bandages and medicine bills needed after a good melee) through writing, acting and singing.

Mostly, it's not working, not, at least, in the sense of earning me enough to live on, and over the course of the past years, I've been a waiter, teacher, teamleader for Greenpeace, kindergarten teacher, event cook, newspaper boy, and even manual laborer (something I thoroughly despised, and that lasted even shorter than all my other temporary jobs ;) ). But so far, there is almost nothing (not even a good fight) that can come close to or even approximate the rush of being on stage, either as a singer or an actor, so it's clear to me that's where I belong. Now, if others agree, that's another matter entirely... (Reasonably soon, you'll be able to see and hear for yourself, once Aubade Online, the renamed homepage of the most successful of my bands, goes live).

I also meddle and dabble and fiddle in politics, but not really long enough at a time for people to shanghai me into any fixed political party or group. I have this strange notion that we should try not to hurt each other (other than in voluntary fistfights, which I hypocritically exclude from my normal view of the world. Violence is best when it's done for fun), and that we should do our best to help the (relatively) weak.

I started gaming on me father's old Mac II, continued with NES, SNES, Amiga 600 HD, CD-32, Mac LC, Performa 630, iMac 400, and iMac 800 (with a short linux detour when I broke the screen of my iMac 800 with my fist by mistake), probably even in that order. And then, a year ago, the skies opened upon to bestow upon me the divine, the heavens bled thunder, and my MacBook Pro made its entrance into my life. Since then, I've been compulsively downloading demanding PC games, just to reboot into windows and run them at maximum settings to annoy my PC-using friends, and then delete them again. It is a waste of time, and very inane, but we mac users can become exceedingly childish when we're winning.

My computer games love affairs throughout the ages include Infocom text adventures (Leather Goddess of Phobos, anyone? :D ), countless early Mac RPGs, but their names all escape me, the Monkey Island games, Quest for Glory series, Elite II: Frontier, Realmz, the Myth series, a host of now-forgotten MUDs, Escape Velocity series, Baldur's Gate, the Fallout series (leaning towards rock, btw, deathy, but yet to leave the fence. But also leaning towards that it will be a very different game experience that the old games, and that  I wouldn't have minded a Fallout game based on the old engine), Neverwinter Nights series, Soul Calibur 3, Jade Empire, Savage, Homeland II, Rise of Legends, DDO, Auto Assault, Mount & Blade, Oblivion, Civilization 4, and a stupid belief in the Darkfall hype which is yet to be proven. My first game ever was a point-and-click adventure game where the hero was a weed-smoking dreadlock-adorned fisherman who ended up on a bizarre island full of stone idols, but I cannot fer the life of me remember the name of it.

I've always had some strange underdog love for independent gaming companies, and Psychic Software is as indy as they get ;) Currently, Psychic, Guild Software (Vendetta Online) and S2 Games (Savage 1 & 2) get my vote for coolest gaming companies out there.

I love the idea of MMORPGs, but hate almost every single MMO available, with some very few exceptions. None of those online worlds are hardcore enough, dynamic enough, or dangerous, unpredictable and variable enough to keep my interest. Besides, if I play round-based/weapon speed-based/hidden dice roll-based MMORPGs for longer than a few minutes, my body start itching for some real-life fighting action. If I am to be a fella with a sword, I want to swing that sword myself, and win my battles not because of levels, but because of my own reflexes and skill.

My handle Ayjona, is the name I was given in Masase, the little village in Zimbabwe where I grew up. For some tribal, obscure and most probably occult reasons, that was the way the villagers elected to pronounce "Jonas", my birth name. So, Ayjona is my african name, and the only online handle I use, except for "Ion".

I actually have very little time to spend on computer games, what with the roguing, dashing (both symbolically and physically) and bard-ing. My two bands, my acting, my physical training, active (if chaotic) social life, fighting and my writing might contribute to that as well ;) But I always have time for a good RPG (and when Spiderweb Software releases a new game, the world rests a bit easier, knowing I'm locked in my home for a few weeks), I don't mind some twitch-action now and then, and now, Darkwind is starting to demand my time. Except for Darkwind, there are only two games that I keep an active interest in: Vendetta Online, the most hardcore MMO there is, and Savage 2, which is not yet the only thing I play apart from Darkwind solely for the reason that it is not yet released.

Bleh. I ramble. But then again, it gets lonely sometimes, out here on the roads of Evan, in the fields of the dead, dying, and bitterly struggling to live...

Ok, another newbie checking in with a brief introduction. My given name is "John" but that's pretty generic and there are usually more than one of us around which can be confusing. Chase Bansi is a name I've used in games for 20+ years; back when we played Car Wars on paper (still have a stack of stuff for it too). It's derived from Buckaroo Bansi (nephew). I am a certified internet junky. I'm a huge Mad Max fan and it was vikKing's post on the madmaxmovies.com forum that brought me here. I can't say I do a lot of online gaming, this is one of the first that has captured my attention. Probably because it's so familiar in it's mechanics.

Personal Stats: 44 yrs old, divorced 3 times, 3 kids- 1 boy(25) and 2 girls(9 & 6), 3 grandkids. Yup, I'm an old man. I've got the grey hair to prove it. After spending 18 years as a hairstylist I now work on a system support helpdesk for a microchip manufacture. 12 hr overnight shift gives me some opportunity to surf the web and check out great sites like this. I'm a moderator on a model railroad forum and participate in several others. I'll do what I can to be a contributer here.
Basically I'm here to play, and I'm ready to go kill something! http://www.trainboard.com/tbsmiles/099.gif

The person behind Famiglia Rivera....

I am italian (31 years old). I live in Milan (a big city in the north of Italy).

I choose this joke of Rivera mafia because usually when I am out of Italy people say to me:

"Italian? Pizza, Venezia e Mafia!"

The 3 most famous thing in Italy.
Hoping that in the future the Mafia will be only in videogames...

In the real life I am a PhD student in Bioinformatics (Biology + Informatics). If you are interested to take me as a PostDoc here is my homepage: http://ciccarelli.group.ifom-ieo-campus.it/fcwiki/DavideRambaldi

I develop in Perl, Java and sometime in C++. My actual project is to study the genes related to tumor development (yes is nasty I know)...

but I always dream to became a videogame developer!

Out of work I collaborate with a Radio streaming http://recipient.cc and I have my personal webpage there: http://tucano.recipient.cc/, is a small project but we enjoy a lot!

In that crew, we always dream in create a game with a good physics engine like Torque...

Then I found DarkWind... and was really similar to my idea of multyplayer game. So I subscribe and now.... I am addicted! Help me!

;)

That's All folks

Okay, here goes... :o

I'm a 20-year-old, female aspiring graphic novelist/comix artist living near San Francisco, California, USA. My life right now consists of going to school, where I study a variety of arts and crafts such as dance, electronic music and jewelery making, writing/drawing my comix, walking people's dogs (what I do for money), and going out to clubs, shows and the occasional literary or political event. To relax, I chill online, read, draw things other than my comix (yes, I draw a lot), research music, and work on customizing my clothing. I have a large collection of eccentric clothing, much of which I got from thrift stores, friends or bins on the sidewalk and customized, and a bit of which I made from scratch. I have an even larger collection of dark and spooky music, much of it from the late 1970s through early 1980s.

My art (not fond of art, by any chance, am I?) is in an experimental, manga-influenced style, with art nouveau, Victorian, symbolist, Dada, Situationist, lowbrow, goth, punk, cyberpunk, fetish, historical, traditional Japanese and gothic lolita influences. I like to portray dramatic, emotional and meaningful stories with an introverted and "tasteful" tone, and am very concerned with making comix that are not just beautiful, but meaningful - literature, in other words. As such, story means a lot to me, and I spend quite a bit of time in the writing process and panel layout before getting down to brass tacks and drawing the story. If there's any one criticism that would really cut me down, it's that I'm making genre work.

The first thing people notice when they meet me, other than my height (five foot eleven, which puts me well above most women), is how I dress, and the fact that I've got a blue and green mohawk. Most people think it's a bit much, and that's quite fine by me - I don't mind it. I've found what I like for the time being, and I do indeed like it. :D The basis of my fashion is the deathrock subculture of which I am a part (not to be confused with death metal, which is totally different) - a blend of goth and punk that has, over the years, gone off in its own, strange direction, largely leaving goth and punk behind. I like my goth and punk heritage very much - I've got a hot pink jacket covered in band patches, spikes and studs, with bats painted on - but I mix in whatever else I feel like at the moment. I tend towards a mix of the two extremes, mixing very punky elements and very frou-frou Victorian elements freely. And yes, I am obsessed. :p

My favorite bands are Siouxsie And The Banshees, Bauhaus, Christian Death, The Naked And The Dead, Sex Gang Children, Faith And The Muse, Minor Threat, Resistant Culture, Merzbow, Sunn O))), Death, Charged GBH, Operation Ivy, Moi dix Mois, Napalm Death, The Toy Dolls, Oi! Brigade, Fugazi, Embrace, Teen Idles, Punx Fuxx, The Devotchkas, Combichrist, Suicide Commando, C/A/T... and I could go on. I'm rarely without my headphones.

For the last year or so, I've been straightXedge, which basically means that I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, have unprotected/irresponsible sex or anything of that ilk. I've seen too many friends #### themselves up, and I didn't want to go down that road.

As for the name - "ad hoc" means "for the purpose of," as in something that is made specifically for one purpose. I feel that I was made for deathrock, and deathrock was made for me (though that feeling may change over time, who knows). "Ad hoc" can also mean "thrown together," reflecting the often improvisational, experimental and random nature of deathrock. And hey, it rhymes! ;)

Oh, and I have an 11-year-old white cat with black spots named Leeloo (after the Fifth Element character).

I run a previous-generation iMac. It's a bit old and a bit slow, but it's my baby and I love it.

Wow, did you just read all that?

Aww, thank you! I do love indie and turn-based games - before this, I was eating up Battle For Wesnoth, which is a delightful game of remarkable quality (and open-source, too - hurrah!). I don't suppose I would be entirely out of place in the Darkwind world, either, except that I would miss the library terribly, and would spend all my time scrounging for art materials. I'd probably end up making post-modern junk sculptures, or something silly like that.  :D

Did you know that abstract rhythmic noise makes great background music for this game? That, and drone-doom metal - especially Sunn O))), which is one of my feeevorit bands. It makes sense, I suppose, given the setting of the game.

Damn got to the end of this thread which must mean its now time to post...o well here goes

I'm a 37 year old guy living in Leicester, England with long time girlfriend of 10 years ( scared of marriage ? me ??? ), currently unemployed after serving 7 years as an assistant manager for a hire car firm and needing a break.

A long history of gaming, Atari 2600, Colecovision (sp?), Sinclair Spectrum, Atari ST, PS one, Gamecube, PC and most recently a Wii. Fave games are primarily Fallout 1 & 2 (and apprehensive about 3) Heroes of might and magic and anything by Julian Gollop, played all his games from Chaos to LSN (until community imploded some years back). Anyone remember Gamesworkshops Battlecars on the spectrum ?

Found DW by reading a forum post somewhere after googling "turnBased" being disillusioned that Fallout 3 will be an FPS twitchfest (jury still out)

Hello

Just subscribed to DarkWind, the name was Eric Singh, became Eric Singh Bhatti when I got married 2.5 years ago.

Wife insisted on name change as my father had dropped his family name when he joined the army.

Just turned 39, moved into a new house two months ago in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England.

Worked in system support most of my adult life and eternally grateful to my father for doing everything in his power to stop me following him into the army.

That said, I do take a lot of pride in the fact that my father served and protected our country and honour his mates who were wounded and killed in the line of duty.

As a service brat I was born in BMH Munster, North Rhine Westphlia, West Germany, my father was infantry, he did 22 years with the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Green Jackets.

Spent 8 years of my childhood in West Germany and still didn't pick up the lingo, a very English thing to do.

Done the familiar boardgames/role-playing/wargaming and as me and the mates got older and moved to different parts of the UK we used PCs to keep in touch and keep our mutual interests going.

My gang name is because within my family I've been known as 'Ricky' since the age of 2.

'Ranjit' is a Sikh name I picked out for myself as my real first name is about as un-Asian as you can get and throughout my life people who meet me for the first time always say:

"I know your name is Eric BUT what's your real name?"

DarkWind has been a revelation as a game, a community of gamers and just having a nice feel to it - jolly well done!

Hello,
I teach art and graphic design at a small college in Northeast Kansas (US). I'm a longtime tabletop wargamer, mainly playing and running Sci-Fi and 19th century Darkest Africa games. Although I never played Car Wars I was aware of it in gradeschool and I drew a lot of vehicles sporting machine guns. I designed a game called "After Apocalypse" in 7th grade that was pretty much a Mad Max / Damnation Alley / Red Dawn blend. It was really just the AD&D rules, but fun for the friends and I.

I LOVED a game called Gorkamorka, which was a turn-based tabletop game involving Orks in crude vehicles shooting the heck out of each other. Darkwind has a lot of that flavor, so I got into it really quick...now I'm just trying to learn to drive. Necromunda was a blast as well. I'm currently working on a tabletop miniatures game based on Waterworld. Jet skis and guns...

As for computer games, I enjoy the Total War series and City of Heroes ... although my all time favorite has to be X-Com.

Screen name is just a nickname I was given a few years back, and it has become a name I use for a variety of things. I'm currently working on a website of my wargame miniatures with Dr. Mathias as the main character.

My gang name, "Birth Trauma", is a silly name my wife and her friends gave myself and their husbands. I've appropriated it for a new use and those gals are gonna be the ones driving my cars.

Matt Leahy
