I've been working on a Pandora station to listen to while I play DarkWind, and I think it's nearly ready for an audience.

http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh53104530464967575

I tried for the feel of Lunatic Fringe, Twighlight Zone, and other classics that we all heard while playing Car Wars many years ago. I mixed that with some modern grooves that work well as background. Some Eno, some Floyd, some MC 900 Foot Jesus.

The result is surprisingly good.

Feel free to make requests here, and I'll add them to the station! It's a station we can all build together!

Feel free to paste in your favorite tunes, or your very own Pandora station.

Rock on, and roll out!

I love it! Not my style of music personally, but fits the Dark Wind style very well.

VIRUS ALERT?

While on Pandora I got a popup that will infect your comptuer with a well-known virus called Antivirus 2009 (or other variants). It will trick you into purchasing an antivirus software and then use your credit card to make fraudulent charges. I'm not sure if Pandora's site has been compromised or if I got something else on my system from something else but Pandora was the last thing I clicked on before I got the popup. I'm sure most people here are smart enough not to respond to this type of popup, but I work in IT and, believe me, we've had a few people who actually gave out their credit card numbers and got charged a lot more than they were expecting, not to mention having their comptuer blue screened a few times.

Edit: I went back and clicked the same link and didn't get the popup, so it's possible I've got something infected in my cache. I'm running a scan of my PC right now, but I tend to be hypersensitive of these things. ;)

1. I added Nickelback "Side of a Bullet" and I think the whole station just got meaner. If you're in the mood, it's pretty angry now. Chuckle.

2. Oddly, I got a virus alert today as well, right around the same time. I used SuperAntiSpyWare.com to scan and remove a whole pile of stuff. If it was Pandora (which seems likley) it's not doing it now. My apologies, and I encourage you all to do a quick scan.

My actual personal radio pick is www.radioparadise.com it's awesome and plays a wide range of good music. But if you're killin stuff and drivin' fast, my station above is the ticket!

Okay, I feel really dense -- I can't figure out how to add an artist/song/album to the station.
For that matter, it seems very arbitrary/random what songs you get, even on a station you seed with a specific artist/album/song.

Edit: For a more Elmsfield sound*, I'd suggest Jerry Reed's East Bound and Down (aka the theme from Smokey and the Bandit), C.W. McCall's Convoy, and perhaps Cledus Maggard's White Knight.

Sometimes four wheels just aren't enough.

* I imagine Elmsfield being a presominantly C&W kind of place, Somerset being more pop/rock, Badlands being metal and industrial, Firelight being gangsta rap and some deeper darker punk, and Gateway being a schizoid mix of all of them, being in the middle. I haven't figured out how Texan and Sarsfield will fit, when they show up.

Also;
The Missing Hitman by The Cold (Pop),
I Found You, by The Fixx.
Hot Rod Lincoln, by Commander Cody. D'oh.

Oona by The Twinemen isn't an especially good fit, but earlier I put my headphones on with it playing in the background, during a Deathrace with lots of rockets being fired... and strangely, it worked. Just not sure it's generally right for Darkwind.

I'll bet you can hear pandora if you're an illegal immegrant! But probably only in the US borders, you're sayin?

I didn't see all these suggestions! I'll add them tonight.

JD, seeds are just that. Specific songs MAY come up, but it's not a certainty. My wife had me add the theme song to Thunderdome, for instance, and I endured a days worth of Tina Turner before I removed it.

JD and I will experiment with adding new songs to a station tonight and see how collaborative Pandora is. I'll let you guys know what happens.

Yeah, it would be cool to have that, but it won't be on Pandora.

Besides, Hospital John might get his own call-in show.

So what do you do? Put the Pandora station playing and turn off the Darkwind audio? Or just turn off the Darkwind music but leave the sound effects playing?

Commercials and call-ins would be a hoot. Can we add them as canned audio to the Pandora station or would these need to be added through the Darkwind Audio?

Well this is going into uncharted territory, now isn't it? To clarify...

www.pandora.com is a streaming music website that uses an in-browser Flash client. Thru it you can build "radio stations" that you can seed with suggestions. Artists or real songs, and you get back someithng LIKE what you requested...and sometimes what you requested.

I have turned off the music in DW and left the SFX on. I have Pandora running in the background.

Right now there is no way to plug new content into Pandora. I have already written this up and submitted it to them, as I could see so many possibilities.

I started this thread intending for people to build and share their own Pandora stations, or just tell people what they listen to. I was assuming we all listen to streaming radio and that everyone can get to Pandora...wrong on both counts.

I will post more on Pandora as I know it, and encourage everyone to add to this. Perhaps there's a way we could build our own streaming station somewhere that's built from our requests and populated with our own submitted content...
