When ever i go to enter an event i get in green "The lighting phase only happens the first time you visit a track or arena" and proceeds to lock my computer up. For awhile simply restarting the browser would reset it, then after a couple of times i had to restart the computer, and now i reinstalled the client both from the self extractor which just started acting up again after a couple of scouts, and then as Klime suggested the complete unzip. Which i had trouble unzipping, and then when i finally got it installed, all the buttons nevere showed up in the interface on the right of the event window, along with most of the control interface while scouting. I run an AMD dual core 4000 with 4 GB's of Ram and Dual AGP express videocards so i doubt its my hardware. I hope someone can help me with this prob. I just resubbed for a year, oh and it only started since the last patch, with both my oldeer computer same specs relatively, but was running XP on that one, thought I had gotten a virus so switched to by back up rig, which only has DW on it and it runs vista, and yes i was running it as the administrator from the pull down menu. Oh and as an aside, if i load in and the loading decals comes on i generally load in, when it flashes quickly or doesn't appear thats the start of my problems it seems. Hope some of this helps.

Seriously folks, this problem needs to be addressed. I haven't had a problem with DW after patches except for about the last two. I get the "Lighting phase" message as well. I reinstalled my client, which was no simple task - took an extended amount of time. Now I get the message again on my first event (which happened to be a scout). The title screen download the data and objects and then stops. I can hear what sounds like motor running sounds, but nothing else. I really dont look forward to reinstalling the client every time there is a patch or I get the message.

P.S While writing this post, the client was activating in my task bar as if a turn had passed while I was gone.

This may be a coincidence, but I think the "Lighting phase" message started showing up after the Recording feature was added.

This is particularly weird because there is no lighting phase involved.
Maps are provided with pre-lighted files, so clients don't need to perform this task, that may take a while some times.

Maybe there is something else. Could you check the console.log?

I believe one fix that has worked is to download the darkwindfull.zip and not the self-extractor. Then unzip DW as as to create a file on your desktop. I know this has worked for several people.

Sorry guys, I didn't realise that the 'lighting phase' thing was back. I'm also aware of the problem with the client crashing after you leave an event... these things are very hard to reproduce since they won't happen for me in my debug build... but they definitely seemed to coincide with the patch that added playbacks.

I'll see what I can do, maybe double-check that all source code files are synchronised.

I'd suggest keeping a zipped copy somewhere, so you don't need to re-download.

This actually sounds like a graphics driver problem. Can you post the contents of console.log? Can you make sure your drivers are up to date, and also check whether DW is set to use D3D or OpenGL in the options window?

Actually that's not true, or else you wouldn't see the lobby. I'm currently adding some extra error logging around the lighting phase and setting it up so that the client sends selected error messages to the server so I can get access to them easily.

This is certainly a way to get around any problems with patching due to a lack of write access in the Program Files folders. I'm not sure if it's the fix in this case, but no harm trying.

I must be an idiot lol, because two fresh reinstalls and i still can't ge t in to events. I have had latte and Longo both run events for me, because i can't log in. Will watch for another patch to try again. In the meantime will reinstall the full version, and hope for the best.

I spent most of yesterday adding some extra error logging procedures, so hopefully this will help figure it out. Today's patch will add a system whereby certain client-side problems are posted into the server's gamelog where I can get proper access to them.

I've just been doing a careful check of all source files, and I found a mistake I made during the patch that added playbacks, which would have caused bits of the Server build to be inadvertently compiled into the Client build... this is quite likely to be the source of the recent client crashes and possibly the 'lighting phase' problems too....

deep respect for programmers. i tried writing code and just one mispelled or misplaced character or word can throw the whole program off.

i could only imagine having millons of lines of code and trying to patch one part that then affects another, patching for that and affecting another, etc, etc, etc...

Sadly, I'm better at fixing bugs than I am at programming. Which is not what most employers want: they'd rather just leave in all the bugs and add new features. Very disillusioning.
