Virus alert about the Win32/Conficker.B worm If your computer is infected with this worm, you may not experience any symptoms, or you may experience any of the following symptoms:     * Account lockout policies are being tripped.     * Automatic Updates, Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), Windows Defender, and Error Reporting Services are disabled.     * Domain controllers respond slowly to client requests.     * The network is congested.     * Various security-related Web sites cannot be accessed. There is a newer one out there that claims to be a "trojan horse virus" for the Mac, but it's basically an AppleScript file that does some things the average user wouldn't want done, but it does NOT self replicate and you MUST download and run it manually. This would be the same as downloading a batch file for a Wintel machine and running it and then saying "but I have a virus." The virus writers will leave apple alone still until more and more are out there. With OSX and windows getting more software bloat there will be a spot or two that the virus and malware writers will find that was left open, just bound to happen. probably a good reason why apple isnt being targeted with malware and such is because I think that malware writers are past the days of bragging on how many PCs their malware gets to. Now they bragg how big their swiss bank account grows when their malware rakes in cash. its about collecting money. PCs are still easy to get in (thanks microsoft). Apples require a bit more work but can be broken. Its simply the path of least resistance. The writers of the trojan mentioned hit 20K macs or more through a pirated copy of software. the trojan wont get outside anyone that doesnt copy the software but their will be more to come as more apples get connected to the net. In reality a PC user can say they wont get a virus by just being careful of what they do. I dont run any kind of security software. I scan the machine remotely or from another on the network and nothing so far.. They are even now making products to be disposable... ipods and such have a pitiful lifespan. Its a matter of time. Its endless where I work. I use a Mac at school, take my files home and work on them at home on the pc. They're about the same anymore in my opinion.
