Kenneth 'Kenny' Harrision, leader of the small 88 MPH crew currently holed up at the Gateway Truckstop, pinched the bridge of his nose in an attempt to reduce the headache he knew was only going to get worse.

He looked down at the blank piece of stationery, and tried to come up with a reason to not send the status report to JC in Elmsfield.

Surely JC would understand that Big Pickups are hard to come by. When Mike at The Weapons Depot had taken him aside, and told him in hushed tones, that he had 'something really nice' to show him, Kenny thought that at best he'd be looking at a freshly unpacked Rifle.  At worst he'd have to punch Mike in the face for trying to feel him up again.

Much to Kenny's surprise, there was a brand new (well, as 'brand new' as anything was these days) Big Pickup under the tarp Mike pulled back.

It wasn't cheap, but it was an opportunity that couldn't be passed up.  JC would understand that, he hoped.

Kenny started to scratch out the status report when Ken 'Boo Boo' Hurt walked in and tossed an envelope on the table.  "Letter for you, Kenny.  From Elmsfield," he said, with particular emphasis on Elmsfield.

"We send him status reports," thought Kenny. "Not the other way 'round."

He opened the envelope, and his eyebrows inched up his forehead as he read.

"Hunh," he grunted, and tossed the letter back to Boo Boo.  "I gotta go back over to The Weapons Bunker.  Be back in a couple hours."

"What's up?" asked Boo Boo.

"JC, Jimbo, Barney, and Doc are all in the Elmsfield Hospital recovering from Rad Sickness, and gettin' shot up.  They lost Mr. Fusion II, and there isn't a suitable replacement up North, so I have to send one up to them," Kenny reported.

"Hell's Bells!" swore Boo Boo.  "Did he say what happened?"

"No, only that after they all get out, he'll be arranging some extra 'training' time for Doc and Barney, seein's how they forgot how to handle their Medium Machine Guns."

Boo Boo chuckled.  He didn't envy Doc or Barney.  JC's extra training time was heavy on the 'extra', heavy on the 'training', and involved at least one pummeling at some point.  The fact that they'd lost Mr. Fusion II, and forced an almost suicidal hike back to town would make it worse for them.  If they didn't end up back in the hospital they'd be counting themselves lucky.

"So, I have to go see if one of the LandRunner's that just came in is available.  If there is, I'll have them get to work on it, and then when it's ready I'll have to run it up to Elmsfield. I 'magine I'll be gone for a couple days, maybe a week."

As he stood up, he picked up the unfinished status report.  He definitely didn't want to finish it now.  Having to report that he'd just bought a Big Pickup, and a replacement LandRunner, at Gateway prices, no less, was something we wanted to put off as long as possible.

Maybe he'd wait to tell JC in person, after he'd had time to get over the loss of his preferred ride.

OOC: The Renowned Mr. Fusion II lost to a Butterfly II and an Eliminator, when my 73 and 86 Gunners couldn't hit anything but dirt.  And when I went to The Weapons Bunker to replace it there was a BPU available for Hero Points.  ZOINKS!
