Autumn 'Red' Cross sat in one of the Mezcal's rickety chairs downing tequila. After the morning's debacle she had left the other Champion gangers behind in favor of strong drink. Cross sipped at her glass, purposely looking away from the fuming, bullet-riddled Apaches parked outside.

The two surviving escort vehicles had soaked up enough fire to be in the shop for days, and the repairs would surely be costly. Although the gang's box van had managed to escape without a scratch, Autumn knew it would hardly matter once Vigil learned his star pupil -Ronald '3rd' Degree- had been left behind in the Apache she had abandoned.

"How am I going to explain this to 'Gunbelts'?" she sighed as she considered her situation.

'Gunbelts' Vigil -the benevolent(ish) dictator of The Groove Champions- was best known for his refinement when punishing offending gangers. Autumn thought of her buddy Julius who'd wrecked one of the leader's prized cars: he'd been in recovery for months with two broken legs after Vigil  tossed him out of a Phoenix at over 100mph.

"I left him there, Ullie... I just... panicked!" she said.

Ulrik the bartender, who had a shot glass to his lips, brought it down and set it on the bar in front of Autumn. "Here you go babe, you look like you need it more than me" he said, "I'm sure you did all you could to help 'em."

Cross' rickety chair cracked as she wriggled uneasily. "Well..."

What would Vigil do to her? Would he move her name to the top of the dreaded 'Somerset Figure-8 Roster'?

"Did you radio Ronald to warn him you were takin' off to town?"

Cross' rickety chair creeked as she twisted shyly. "No..."

Would Vigil send her out in the wilderness with only a pistol -or worse- in a Racoon?

"Did you drive by the wreck once the dust settled?" Ulrik asked.

Cross' rickety chair whined as she shifted meakly. "Uh..."

Would she have to bunk up with 'Skidmark' Lee? She knew Lee didn't get that nickname for his driving skills...

"Ok... Ok... they had a first aid kit in the truck, right?"

Autumn's shoulders sagged as she fixed her gaze on the bottles behind the bar.

Walking away, Ulrik chuckled and muttered "Damn hun! You gotta have more sense than that!"

The drinks passed, and the hours passed, but Autumn was still petrified at the thought of Vigil's eventual wrath. She knew she had messed up but she didn't think her boss would give her a chance to learn from her mistakes. Autumn bought round after round of drink, moving from tequila to whiskey, from whiskey to beer, from beer to the washroom and back to tequila but the thought of her punishment rang loud and clear no matter how hard she tried to drown her fears.

"Hey 'Red'!"

Autumn's unsteady gaze wandered up from her thoughts and settled on the two fuzzy shapes standing beside her. The two shapes slowly melted into each other and came into focus. Autumn felt her heart skip a beat. Before her was standing '3rd' Degree in the flesh! He was covered in tattered rags, caked in dust and sand and had a large stain of dried blood where there should have been an ear, but he was alive and was smiling through two missing teeth.

"R... *hic* Ron?! Ron is datchu?"

"What?! You'll have to speak up!"

"Ron! Did'ju... Yer...Yer alive!" Autumn slurred.

"Huh? No sorry, the Apache didn't make it... 'Pecker Dick' drove it into a cliff, that useless douche! He ran off without even looking back."

"Wu... uh... erh - yer meshing an *huc* ear, buddy!"

"Oh that's OK! I picked up a Phoenix to replace it! The driver gave me a hard time but I ripped out his car door, shot him in the face and kicked him out the passenger side. That baby's got a V8! Boy is 'Gunbelts' ever gonna be happy!"

Through drunken tears, Autumn leaned over to hug Ronald. Her rickety chair, finally balking at the weight of her surprise and incessant squirming, snapped a leg. In a flash of blue text, Autumn fell sideways akwardly, knocked herself out on the edge of the bar and settled for a nap in a slimy puddle after tipping over the spittoon.

EVENT: S120632 (All Apaches were moderately damaged from a previous encounter, had no reloads due to a logistical error (attributed to Autumn 'Red' Cross). Pay close attention to Ronald '3rd' Degree after he exits the Apache, as he provides one of the funniest (and luckiest) sequences I've witnessed in Evan)
