The birth of a new chapter

Carl 'Hercules' Dennis was having breakfast at the Grainne Uaile.  You didn't need to look far to see where the guy had got his nickname.  He had muscles that would put to shame Arnold Schartzenneger in his good days.  It was a big contrast with the small women sitting in front of him. Linda Jackson had the perfect build for a race driver.  Small and light, but in great physical shape.  They were talking about Linda's last race when the phone rang.

« 'lo » said Carl, swallowing at he same time

« Hey Herc', Harold here in Somerset.  How are things? »

« We're good here Cap, just finishing breakfast.  »

« Did you hear our convoy reached Sarsfield safely? » (Read the Journey across Evan thread in Dexter's tavern)

« Yeah, Top Gun called. That's great what they did there.  This really open things up for the future. »

« I know, that's why I'm calling. You know how we talked about moving a part of our operations down south?  I think the time has come. We can do great business trading and escorting between Badlands and Sarsfield. I hear the pay to escort a 5 car squad between those 2 cities is around $700 000, and the pay for mail delivery is awesome too. Here up north, we just formed another squad for the trading and escorting business. I think the crew that's in Sarsfield right now should stay south and report to Badlands. They could take care of all the travels south of the Gateway Truckstop. »

« I think that'd be great Cap, we'd be closer to Southern Pride too, so we can better support them. »

« Yeah, that too. Herc', we talked in the past about giving you the chance to run your own chapter. I think you'd do a fine job managing the Badlands chapter of the Panthers. Is it something that you could be interested in? »

« That'd be great Captain, you know I've been waiting for an opportunity like this for some time now. »

« Great then that's settled. Are you comfortable with the people that are going to end up in your command? »

« Yeah, no problem there, I'm on really good terms with Top Gun, Huge and the rest of vets there.  I'll get to know the younger gangmembers too, I don't see this as a problem. »

« Great, you understand that you take care of the day to day stuff south of Gateway, but that you still report to me? »

« Of course Cap. I wouldn't have it any other way. »

« Great.  You already got an idea of where you're going from there? »

« Yeah Cap, for small stuff.  We've been working on a new setup for our buzzer here, so that it can be used for the escort missions.  We've put a heavy car rifle and a car cannon at the back?  That should discourage pursuit. »

« I'll say yeah » says Harold, laughing « I like that idea, if you can get your hand on a buzzer, let me know and we'll bring it up north so we can use it for escorts too.  I want to keep the one we already have in Somerset, Bruiser, for training purposes. Anything else? »

« Yeah, we're putting the finishing touch on Grizzly, our Box van we want tu use as a solo trader here in the south.  We put a 5L engine in there, light but solid armor, you know, the expensive stuff, and we put a mine dropper and rocket launcher at the back.  It's a little heavier than the Bear setup you use up north, but I think it's better adapted for the travels here in the south.  It'll be ready to go when Leila arrives later this week.  We also are preparing box vans we're gonna use as storage in Southern Pride. »

« Well, that's great, I see you already have things under control. »

« Yeah, I think it'll be just fine. Are you going to anounce the news to Top Gun? »

« Yeah, I'll call him right away. Meanwhile, you need anything, you call me alright? »

« Sure. »

« And you take care of the family man. »

« Will do, don't worry boss.  See you. »

And with that, he hangs up, resumes his breakfast, and tells the news to Linda.

Trooper Paul Anthony walks into The Grainne Uaille surrounded by an entourage of body guards and loyal ally gangers. "Hey friend, about time you got here. We thought you were coming yesterday and already drank all the beer! No worries, there is quite a supply still up at Southern Pride, and Lightning Peck already started a mutant rat on the rotisierre. Good to see you."

<OOC>

Glad to see things went well for you Jester, but don’t be fooled into thinking it normally goes that well on a regular basis. You did well on your trip because all the gangs in BL were beat down to a bloody pulp and your trip was timed well. Once they are back at full strength things won’t be so easy around these parts.

I know that It's never going to be easy, but I think it's doable.  The one part that scares the crap out of me is GW-BL. I think I have a shot at making good business between GW and SF.  We'll see :)

Entry in Carl 'Hercules' Dennis' personnal journal, 2009-07-12. - S125248, S125292

Today is a great day for the Panther's Badlands chapter. We did our first offical mission. Impala Inc. asked us to get 3 of their trader cars to Sarsfield. We took the contract, and we got the cars there.  The pay for the job was 250K, which is nice.  I hope in the future we can get better paying jobs on that stretch of road.

The pay wasn't the greatest, but we got a lot of loot during the mission, which made it an exceptionnaly successful trip.

The first encounter we got was with the V-8 Vikings, a reknowned pirate gang with a bounty on their heads.  We used the same strategy we usually use, with 3 heavy fighters going at a somewhat slow pace, protecting the rest of the squad getting away.  The 3 cars we used this time were Guardian Angel, a buzzer with a heavy car rifle and a car cannon at the back, Guard II, an apache with a car rifle and a heavy machine gun at the back, and Ranger, an apache with a heavy car rifle and a heavy machine gun at the back.

It was the first time we used that set up on a buzzer and it did wonders. The extra hard armor, heavy firepower and long range is deadly and perfect for escorting jobs.  It's really heavy, but the convoy going at 40 or 50 mph, it can keep the pace. I'll be sure to call 'captain' Dvorak in SS to tell him how well the setup worked.

Not only did we defeat easily the Vikings, we looted 2 cars in top shape.  Both had there engines in perfect condition and the armor wasn't even breached. They really got scared when Mark Petit turned Hauler III, our lorry carrying fuel and mail, around and started raming to death the Vikings.  They surrendered without a fight. We kindda got lucky too, because these cars we looted were stranded after some bad maneuvers from their drivers. In all, we killed 6 Vikings, and collected 3 bounties in Sarsfield.

The 2 cars looted were a carrier van with a 3.2Lv8 and a car cannon, and an apache with a 3.2Lv8.  Everything in perfect condition. 'Captain' Dvorak will be thrilled when I tell him about our new acquisitions.

We also encountered on the way the Crimson Wind, which agreed to truce, and the Dead Heads which we defeated rather easily too. I think even after the last fight, which took place at the gates of Sarsfield, we would have had enough ammo and armor to defeat another group of pirates. Just to be on the safe side, I'll ask Mark Petit and Joseph Villareal to load more ammo in the lorry in the future.

While we were having a beer at the Devil's Dan to celebrate our successful journey, some guy named Ferrario, who owns a weapon shop with his brother in Sarsfield came to see me and said he had heard about our exploits against the Vikings and had some stuff at his shop that could interest us. The next day, I went to his shop with William Stribbling, our mechanic is Sarsfield, to see what he had for us, and the Ferrario guy wasn't kidding. He sold us a mounted mortar. Said he was keeping it for some deserving do-gooders.  William took a look at it he said it was in great shape and that it looked brand new. I'm thrilled, as I know 'Captain' Dvorak had been looking for one of those for a long time.

While we were at the Devil's Dan, I saw a mission posted. It's worth 1.3 millions, to get 6 cars to Somerset. I'll have to call 'Captain' Dvorak on this.  I don't know if I should take it.  The stretch of road between the Badlands Truckstop and the Gateway Truckstop scares me to hell.
