Can you rephrase this, it's confusing?

ok... when i hover pointer over a link, it doesnt change, drop downs do not work and clicking the left mouse , has no effect on the desktop at all ( as if the mouse wasnt plugged in ) this occurs both on web and desktop, the only way it will allow me to select anything with the left click , is to perform a right click first, which then allows all normal left click functions... thiis then may work for a while till i have to right click again to access the left click

oh god that sounds worse :(

this isnt just DW but everywhere

I don't use Vista but in the older OS's you have some mouse settings (reverse buttons, etc.). Look at that and make sure it's all okay.

And have you tried another mouse?

Since you reinstalled it is probably a hardware problem.

Are you using an external mouse or the mousepad on the laptop.
Check if buttons are stuck on the mouse.

You can also download and boot a linux live cd to check if it is a windows problem.

ubuntu livecd

Its as if when i need to make an area live ( normal left click |) it now requires a right click i have checked with virus protection, registry cleaner im stumped

This is a " human interface device" kinda issue - especially when it affects all pointers

It could be a disabled accessibility type option that is enabled " sticky keys" type feature

it could be a hardware type issue - e.g. on my Acer AA1 if you press Fn and F7 the whole trackpad is disabled

get an external boring wired usb mouse that you are sure works - find out what is is described as on another vista machine in the device manager page
Then plug it into your laptop and see what it is described as

Also read ALL of this -

Hi, i had the same problem & after a while the solution is easy.
Go to your mouse settings in the control panel, you should have a "Device Settings" page <with a sinaptics logo on it>
Click "Settings" for the "Synaptics TouchPad" and there you have "Clicks" and press the "Enable Clicking".
Hope it helps, Happy Easter

I dont use synaptic drivers  - I am - ULTRA orthodox - Bomb the OS back win95 look and feel , MSCONFIG everything else down to rubble , Smash indexing , restore and evan turn off Pagefile ( IF XP and you have scads of RAM)

Ubuntu is beautiful , you can plug in a cheap and nasty 'bells and whistles' multimedia keyboard and everything just works - But even I turn  off Compiz - Yuk

That's what's good about the Ubuntu CD - you can run it in "cd boot mode" or whatever it's called - like a try before you buy thing. It loads from the CD and does NOT install on your hard drive.

That would let you test it in a different environment.
