Before the solar apocalypse, some of the best mind in the psychologists community started a project to predict what the outcome of the infrastructure fall out would have been.

With the help of physicists and mathematicians, studies were done and model were built. With the impeding danger and generous founding, more and more simulations were run, with the data pointing towards the creation of small city states near the resources center, detached from any kind of central authority due the difficulty of maintaining a long distance communication network. Pointing towards an increase in private driven transport and trade with a surge in road piracy and highway hijacking. More and more simulation were run, each more accurate than the other, until the final publishing of the research almost resembled the situation we
e living today, and got forgotten and ignored like the other dozens and hundreds of similar research that were being run anywhere on the world.

After the apocalypse, some of those books were recovered. In the lawless world of opportunity that came, some of the finest trader and fighter from their escort started to review that material with greater depth, hoping to have some insight from the past useful for gaining an edge over the competition. Working over the idea of living in a tribal world, in athenians like city states, some men started to working out the idea of restoring order using the Roman dictatorship model, coercing with force, politics, subterfuge and plain manslaughter the other to comply. Time passed, and the gang grown more and more in strength. Cities alliance formed, and new social groups started to form within the alliance, raising from those who started all of this and becoming the elite of the new born alliance, resulting in a fascists aristocracy. The nobles begun differentiating themselves with more and more borderline references to the old Roman society, catering their dressing codes, their custom and morals, and then thier language. By that time the Imperium romanum novus was born.

An old idea in the new context, the dictatorship model worked like a charm to coordinate the effort of the survivors. cities where annexed to the newborn empire, due alliances and sieges. Long distance communication where once again reliable, with the introduction of a postal service and heavily armed road patrols. Resources secured, food production stabilized, piracy within the empire land fought with strength and method, incessantly. Proud of their own strength and vanquished internal enemies, the tribunus cohorts, general of their armies of cars, sought fame and glory in distant lands, retuning with rare pieces of hardware, knowledge and war spoil.

One of those expedition, caught by a sandstorm, got dispersed and vanquished by pirates. The tribunus, escaped from the slaughter driving south for days with the few survivor, arrived at Somerset after wandering in the wasteland with almost no resources, companions or money, with the little hardware and food that he managed to stole from prates during the trip.
