Warriors of Evan - No Aiming Just Shooting

The following is a transcript of Video and Audio recorded in September of 2066 in the compound of a local gang in Somerset. It is the second in a series of interviews conducted by James Chisolm in an effort to capture the personalities and lives of the participants in Evans number one sport, DeathRacing.
================================================================

The “practice space” is a converted garage. Power is supplied by a series of 4L engines running from next door. Various beaten up sofas and seats adorn the room, scavanged band posters are used as wallpaper, mostly from artists like Sonic Youth, The Pixies, Soundgarden, Straitjacket Fits, Modest Mouse and The 3D's. A huge poster for a band called “The K1500 Project” takes pride of place in the back of the room – carefully framed and contained behind bullet-proof glass. The rest of the room contains dozens of instruments in various forms of repair (and disrepair). Various amplifiers are stacked up, almost to the ceiling, probably enough volume available to knock down a small building.

Carol “Elvisey” Stewart

Medium height, dark black hair styled into the classic Elvis style pompadour. She typically wears a white leather jumpsuit with a variety of “liberated” patches from raider gangs shes been involved in knocking down adorning the space on the back. Knee high snake skin boots and a microphone cable (with microphone included) for a belt finish off her outfit. She operates as the gang/band manager – she used to run the outfit before “The Bassist” took over – she still does most of the day to day organisation.

“The Stylist” Robert Barber

Robert is short, about 5'7” and prides himself as a fashionista of Evan – he has more outfits than most gangs have clothes. Typically he's seen wearing classic worn jeans, a black silk shirt, winklepicker shoes and a fashionable dress jacket. His outfit is finished off with a shiny black walking stick (which he may or may not actually need). Usually his hair is heavily styled, with a preference for the quiff. “The Stylist” is the gang/band primary scout (and a skilled heavy gunner).

1.Can you tell me about the origins of your gang?

Carol : Well we've got a long history and it ain't from around here. Round the time of the “event” there was this band who were on tour from down in the southern hemisphere – they were trying to break into the northern market, and doing pretty well at it. Well that all got shot to #### when the sun decided to go a bit spaz and this band, and their roadies, ended up having to hunker down in the basement of this bar they were playing. The boys pretty much lived off stale bar snacks and flat beer for the next year till the old fireball had settled down – when they did venture out, well everything had changed hadn't it? Being adaptable they realised two things: firstly that they were going to need some serious wheels to compete with what was going on out there, secondly, they now had a much bigger share of the musical market and there was no way they were going to let that opportunity go to waste.

Personally I can trace my lineage back to the original group. I may have been born out here in this wasteland but, even though I haven't been there (if there still exists), I'm still a southern hemisphere girl at heart.

2.What motivates your members/leadership?

The Stylist : I'll take this one sweetie! We're going to be famous, again! No, seriously! It's not all about the racetrack and scratching for an existence, there's gotta be good sounds and thats one thing that we have in spades! The Bassist, the big man, may be a bit quiet about it but that's what he's after – and you only see him smile when he's got his bass strapped on and is trying to demolish buildings with it. People deserve to hear the material we've got, Evans been living off the music of the past for too long – and we're the future.

3.Defining moment in your gangs history?

Carol : Probably getting to that point of self sustainability. I mean, that's a big thing for us, it means we can start actually getting the materials together for what we want to do. I'm guessing your viewers aren't after that sort of answer though...

4.Biggest challenges your gang faces?

Carol : Well we've got some plans but the stuff that we need, it just isn't produced any more. So scavenging the right parts for what were trying to build is always a challenge. Its also tough to balance the band side of things with the gang side – you know we're not just a one track pony, we've all got interests in both driving and playing, and it's hard to say which is more important to each of the members.

5.Most popular member of your gang/least popular member?

The Stylist : Most popular? Ohhh that has got to be me, no one can resist my charms!

Carol : Actually he's probably right. We'd be here for hours if I disagreed anyway!

The Stylist : Oh Carol, you melt my heart with your words.

Carol : Well you can't really argue with that can you... In terms of least popular, well... “The Angry Man” John Lennon freaks out most of us, the only guy more scary than the big man (The Bassist). That guy's just never happy, and when he is it's usually when someone is stuck under the wheels of his Apache. Oh and you haven't heard what he does to Beatles songs.

6.Favorite vehicle/weapon/setup?

Carol & The Stylist : RAMS!

Carol : But seriously ramming is a bit of a soft spot for most of us. We've got this Velocity build, a stock Pho, 4L engine, reinforced ram and a heavy machine gun. Anyone who joins the crew has to survive a couple of runs in one of them, even the medics and mechanics. If you ain't got the chops for ramming you ain't got any place with us.

The Stylist : Aside from that we do love our big engines and sleek lines, so it's muscles that are our pride and joy. Buccy's are probably the favourite for most of the folks, Flails coming a close second. Really though going fast is just too cool.

Carol : Yeap, what he said.

7.Events your gang enjoys the most(DR, combat, scout)?

Carol : Gotta be death-rallys I think. Though The Stylist ain't so keen on them as they don't use his skills.

The Stylist : Yeah, I like watching them but not so much running in them – give me the open road any day.

Carol : Aside from him most of us really enjoy them, they usually pretty competitive and always hold a couple of surprises. We've been enjoying the circuit of Evan series recently, we've only just started competing in them on a regular basis – it's been a good motivator to get set up in some of the other townships as well.

8.Biggest adversary/greatest ally?

The Stylist : All those wasteland raiders can, and will, burn.

Carol : Yeah gotta agree there. In terms of locals we don't seem to have made any enemies as yet, though we're not really fans of Special Circumstances, they're a bit arrogant... though we haven't actually got anything against them. In terms of friends we get on pretty well with Renshai – they're great folks, learned a lot from. They're always up for a rumble on the racetrack or outside the gates – and we picked up our Buccy love from them.

The Stylist : Don't forget the Roses Carol!

Carol : Oh yeah we've got a healthy respect for Blood Roses, tough and competitive but pretty damn friendly as well – again we've learned a lot from them, which round here is almost as good as it gets.

9.What are you thinking about during combat?

The Stylist : Oh honey you don't think in combat. You do! Too much thinking gets you dead fast. Gotta trust your gut and the folks in the other seats, otherwise how can they trust you. Though I guess it's going to be different for each person, personally you've just got to get the flow going you know?

10.How do you feel about your fellow gangers?

Carol : Our guys? Well they're a pretty good bunch. Generally the rule is if you can play, drive and shoot you're okay, even “The Angry Man”. If you're talking about the other gangs in Evan, they're a mixed bunch, some cool dudes, some cold dudes, some dud dudes – just like the music biz. Overall we're a pretty laid back bunch though.

11.Final thoughts?

The Stylist :

Carol : The big man has given us permission for you to film a live performance of our theme song. He won't be joining us though, we've got a backup on bass for the performance. Grab the ear-muffs over there... yeah you are going to need to them, there's enough wattage in here to level a small township... you all good, you may want to brace that camera so the vibrations don't shake it too much...

The Stylist : That could be a cool effect though Carol!

Carol : Yeah, well your call Mr Cameraman. May want to delay your next set of interviews though, there may be some temporary hearing loss after this...
