Uncle Lugal says: You can`t take that literally. It`s anecdotal shorthand referencing their origins as soap manufacturers. You see, before The Burn there was a small but successful company called Domestic Castile. They specialized in a popular red-packaged soap favored by mechanics, craftsmen, and hitmen for it`s grease-cutting ability. In the aftermath of the catastrophe, the charismatic HR sub-director reorganized the company into a survivor collective. Unfortunately the bunker was negligently stocked not with food, water, and emergency supplies, but with case upon case of red-packaged bars of soap. A hard decision was made after much debate, and it was decided that the chaos outside was a worse fate than a rather unpleasant diet. While the soap yielded a surprising degree of nutrients, over the years it drove the Domestic Castile bunker dwellers into unstable and violent madmen. Even after the sunstorms and acid rains began to subside, they remained in the bunker, eating soap and developing a brutal but very hygienic culture seated in hand-to-hand combat. One day a group of looters searching for pre-Burn tech stumbled across the hatch to the bunker, and unwittingly released the savage horde unto the outside world. Now aware of the relatively-resource rich towns nearby, and the trade routes that linked them, the current leader, a former sales manager named Eugene, changed their name to what he felt was the antonym: Wildfire. Taking up their arms and other limbs, they set out to plunder the world of the non-soap-fed. Thus, it can truly, albeit figuratively, be said that they `rose out of the Lava to waylay travelers.`  Image by Lord Foul Lonesome Highway. There are only scattered remnants of the cities that once dotted this landscape, criss-crossed by cracked two-lane blacktop. Like the landscape, keep your throttle wide open when you see this vista stretching out in front of you, because your pursuers will! The lifeless soil is kind to tires, even standards will work here, but I wouldn`t recommend it! Occasional outcroppings of razor-sharp wind-scoured rock can make short work of even reinforced skins, and several extremely deep, rocky gorges break up the monotony of flat ground, so be careful to stay on the blacktop and make speed your best weapon. If you must fight, try and maneuver your enemy into chasing you across one of several bridges that still stand: dropped weapons are your friends in this part of the wastes and can make any chokepoint, or in this case, bridge, a death trap for pursuers. Roadblock your end of the bridge, and slaughter the first few crazy enough to try and cross. Their burning hulks will make great barriers to slow the enemy, bringing them under your guns and making short work of them. Getting caught out in the open with big, heavy vehicles can spell the end of your life. Mobility is key to survival here. Scout out ahead of your path of travel, not all the gorges in this bit of land have bridges. 1. King Cobras (Badlands Truckstop): $348.
