Lugal`s Ram Car Guide

There seems to be two schools of thought about Ram Cars - speed and mass. If you can manage both, great, but most ram cars are built primarily for one or the other. My ramcars - Crackup, a buccaneer [see right] and Ramjetcarthing, an apache - are examples of these, respectively.

Faster cars don`t hit as hard and can`t take the same abuse [read: gunfire] while trying to ram, but compensate with speed and maneuverability. A nice heavy apache can crush a car, but once in melee it can be hard to maintain speed. This makes you a sitting duck while you struggle to come about on another target.

On design specifics, always include a rollcage. Period. Always use a reinforced ram unless you only plan on ramming once per fight and replacing rams often. Certainly favor the ramming facing for armor, but don`t forget that you`re subject to a lot of fire from all angles when in melee.

Weapons - whatever you can squeeze in. Front flamers are popular to terrorize targets, side and back light weapons eg GGs are good for harassing enemies while maneuvering and for hitting elusive foes.

For tactics, I`d recommend hit-and-run skirmisher rules. Try to maintain speed - hit hard, push through, escape to sufficient distance to build up speed, and hit again. Heavy rammers often charge straight in, annihilating their target. Lighter rammers often flank and rely on maneuver and opportunity. Hit head on to destroy a car, from the side if you want to try to loot it. Hit from behind if you want to gently massage the enemy crew.

No matter what, ramcars are relatively suicidal. They are also a LOT of fun. One of my all-time favorite scouts was taking Crackup on a trader hunt. I opted to pace the lorries while others fought the escorts. One escort phoenix stayed with the lorries, though. Driving parallel on the other side of a dune, I saw a convergence in our paths up ahead. I opened up the 5L, timed it just right, and slammed into the phoenix from the side. The phoenix was taken out, and I was in and out of the lorries` LoS in just a couple seconds. I resumed a pace position, and shortly after that the other escorts gave up.

Carnival

4Saken recently led his carnival into the Somerset Wilderness for the second time. Gazette photographers were on hand to capture the results.

THE PED ARMY

THINGS WE HAVE LEARNED...

Never catch a CGL with your face

Never loiter around in a group and gawk after seeing someone`s head blown off with a CGL

Okay, as I was saying about spreading out...

And yes, it IS possible for two peds to attack a stranded pirate...

... with predictable results

With thanks to 4saken, Jester, t0rp0r and Nojj.

Introducing the Crack-Up

Why do ramcars have a reputation as suicidal deathtraps? Because most are. Most are regular cars modified for the task. Slapping a little extra iron to the front doesn`t cut it. Welding scrap on the chassis doesn`t cut it. Dumping all that extra weight on an already underpowered engine doesn`t cut it.

Are you ready for something different?

Introducing the 2047 Crack-Up, by Man`s Laughter. Designed from the ground up for the rigorous role of ramming, the Crack-Up features an integrated chassis, rollcage, and ram. Built as a single unit, this creates a perfectly balanced endoskeleton that lets you demo-derby in decadence, while ensuring smooth and responsive handling. With a massive 5L enclosed engine eagerly at your beck and call, YOU set the terms of the battle. Run down interceptors, outmaneuver tanks, and crush them all to your heart`s content. Crack-Up by Man`s Laughter. Changing the way it`s done.
