| 'Sleepy' Justin Joiner | Iron Wraiths | Somerset Junkyard Track 1 | 2011-12-19 | Justin Joiner became known as Sleepy after a horrific crash left him in a coma for almost a year. Once recovered he occasionally took to the circuit, but was never as dynamic as before his crash. When the race league aspirations of Iron Wraith were in jeopardy however he pulled out all the stops. He was almost half a lap ahead in the final lap when something made him loose control of his vehicle and it smashed into the concrete barrier at over 100 mph. Bursting into flames on impact, the car exploded shortly afterward.
Inexplicably, Justin`s telemetry continued to operate in his trademark fashion for several minutes after the explosion giving hope that he might against all odds emerge alive from the crash. After the race ended the clean up crew confirmed that he had probably burned to death even before the explosion that would have certainly finished him.
Iron Wraiths recovered the telemetric equipment for closer examination and found nothing to explain the ghostly signals that were sent so long after the crewmans death. Some have speculated that, having spent so long plumbed into a machine during his coma, Justin had aquired some machine empathy that enabled him to briefly inhabit the system after his coporeal body had been consumed. To honour his memory the telemetric equipment is now wired up in Iron Wraiths lock up and monitored round the clock in case he is able to send messages from beyond the grave.
People need to believe there is something beyond the here and now. |
