'Lucky' Homer HarrisIron WraithsThe Wilderness2020-09-26
Lucky was one of the old timers who came out of retirement to restart the gang. Whilst the young `uns competed in town events to build their skills, the old stagers ran courier missions to replenish the coffers.

Lucky had completed hundreds of such runs in the Gateway, Somerset, Elms triangle and was pretty confident. Nothing could catch the 3.2 spirit he habitually used and it seldom took a hit or even scuffed the tires.

Unfortunately a rookie inadvertently accepted a job for for Badlands. It probably would have been more sensible to toss it in the trash, but to Homer a principle was at stake. If you take the job, you do the job.

Insisting the rookie accompanied he was generous enough to allow the rookie to take a Phoenix Bowser while Homer took the Spirit. Having outrun repeated pursuits by hordes of bandits in unfamiliar terrain, he was within sight of Badlands when he was attacked by a bandit tractor. Being used to outrunning trouble, this should have been a cakewalk. He failed to notice however, that as well as paint being lobbed in his direction, there was also grenades. Homers luck ran out when his top armour was breached and he succumbed to his injuries before he could be recovered.

The rookie who had accompanied him on the trip was more fortunate than perhaps he deserved and perhaps Homers luck passed on to him as he survived and even completed the mission.
