I don't want to sound like a whiner, but there needs to be more of a penalty for not showing up for a scout then there is currently or an incentive if you show and lose; maybe 1 point?

I just lost to DB BFF and had a demo of 400, but Madhat Maniacs (sorry for calling you out) didn’t show up for combat against Fox Run and only lost 50 demo points. I realize the demo points are only the tiebreaker, but they can possibly matter.

Not showing up should cause you to lose Max CR limit + an extra amount (50,100, ?) so that in case of a tie, not showing up and risking your cars and crew is more of a penalty then doing the combat and losing.

I can see your point marc.. any opinions from anyone else?

Seems to be a lot of no-shows at the squad leagues so far this week...

Our team leader for division 3 (flaming savage) hasn't really been around lately, and hasn't set a squad or time for our fight.

Is there any way to make it that the members of the team can change the time and set the squad too? It might help with the no shows.

That would be a great idea

Before I don't show for my event, I want to let everyone know that my subscription has ran out and I'm waiting on PayPal to accept my money so that I can resub. In the meantime, that means no Darkwind for me, and especially no using my own cars.

I've PM'ed the team I will be competing against so that they know, and once I am resubbed I don't plan on missing any more events.

Off topic maybe, but thought I'd post here - been an odd week for me - lots of meetings and only some solo play here and there. Nowhere near the amount of camp scouts I normally do. Sorry.

As for the points, I don't really have an opinion either way. Haven't dwelled on it long enough to form one. :)

Yeah New linux upgrade killed my DW.. cant play until I figure it out. Havent played in the league enuff to really have an opinion but I guess i'm all for punishing no-show.

It isn't that I want to punish no shows as much as I don’t want to punish showing up and losing. That is why 1 point for losing may be a good compromise.

Might be good to allow teams to be able to schedule their event for anytime not just up to 10 days early. If two teams are scheduled for combat in the last week of the league, they can do it as the first combat for either of them.

I like 1 point for losing.

3 points for winning
1 for losing
0 for not participating?

I like FFs point proposal.

I think the only change oughta be that a nonshow or forfeit should result in a 110% CR loss record, so that a player that loses every single match would still come out ahead of a player that noshows every single match.
*sam*

Posted May 16, 2010, 4:06 pm
The effect of 110% CR loss for a noshow would effectively be the same as what FF is suggesting, isn't it?

FF- you didn't mention draws here. I assume 2 points, but that makes it 2/3 of a win rather than the current 1/2 of a win.. quite different.. I assume you mean if both sides are no-shows they both get zero though rather than both score a 'draw'
FireFly

Posted May 16, 2010, 4:09 pm
Well, if neither side shows up, neither side should get any points.
Now, as for match draws, I just don't see that happening :)
*sam*

Posted May 16, 2010, 4:11 pm
It is possible though. How about a truce? or an event where no-one demo's and all cars from one side escape?

If all cars from one side escape, then that team would lose. Truces shouldn't be allowed.

I like FF's idea of 3 points for a win, but not if that win is because someone didn't show up. A win due to no show should only be 2 points.

Well, given that the PVP events have a time limit, draws are totally possible, though unlikely.

Why not have draws be considered a fighting loss for both sides? That way people will be forced to fight more aggressively and you eliminate the possibility that two players will make a gentleman's agreement to run out the clock.

What's up for the scoring can someone please tell me?

I forgot to assign a squad and i got 0 points and a -50 demo score, then won one event against the npcs for a total of 2 points

Now looking at div 3 I see Nine missed an event too, and won one event and got no demoes and got 4 points total
*Ninesticks*

Posted May 18, 2010, 10:25 am
I didn't miss an event. No opposition set by Sere for the first one, and I won the second one.

Ha ok *flogs himself for missing an event he set 20 minutes ahead*

While we're discussing this... maybe another point to consider... my opponent this week had a brain fart, and as a result fielded only a 41 CR flash against us. We won of course, and only got 41 demo points... less then the default 50 for no shows... just seems off a bit.

Perhaps for a win you get opponent's CR or 50 points, whichever is higher?

How about getting rid of points entirely and basing the whole ranking on demo +/-?

Here is my idea for scoring

If both players enter:
* Winner gets 3 Points
* Loser gets 1 point

If only one player enters:
* They get 2 points (at least they tried to do battle)
* No Show gets 0 points

If Neither player shows up:
* They both get 0 points

Keep the demo +- points as the tiebreaker

I love the concept, but you shouldn't have less potential points in a given week then your competitors based on anything your opponent does or does not do.

The reason a winner of an actual combat would get 3 points instead of 2 is due to the risk involved of actually having a battle as opposed to winning due to no show.

I just hope some changes are made before next season as the current system is a little wonky, IMO

But then you open it up to people being payed/bribed/cajoled into showing up and throwing a fight to get the 3 points instead of 2, or to NOT show up to a match with another opponent, just so they get only 2 points and not the three. Winning the league should be about combat prowess, not politics and maneuvering. PVP Combat league, not Survivor with alliances and intrigue.

I'll agree the current system is a bit wonky. At present though you do get the demo points as a tiebreaker for actually fighting and winning, as opposed to 50 points for 'winning' against a no show.

There was a suggestion* that the +/- demo when there's a no-show is set higher than the squad CR limit (rather than just 50), in order to encourage people to show up even if they think they will lose, rather than don't show at all. But I don't think giving more points in different situations is a good idea.

* actually, it was the original suggestion with which marc started this thread.

That would work as well, but you should not get a single point for a No Show.
No Show=No Points. But this hurts the guy who does show up.

I revised my points thinking based on a thread from FF. (I know, shocking!  ;) )

Since the tiebreaker is the demo +/- and the main ranking is based on points, I think it is important to not get any points if you can't bother to show up for your event but you should get at least a point even if you show up and lose.

Which would lead me to this:
* Win via combat - 2 points
*Win via other player No Showing – 2 points
*Lose a combat – 1 point
*No show – 0 points

The biggest issue is the making sure it is much more valuable to show up, even if you don’t think you will win, rather than No Showing. I imagine that we expected a lot less No Shows than we are getting in the league. The scoring need to be revised to seriously penalize No Shows and making it a benefit to show up even if you lose. This is why I think 1 point for losing is a good idea ON TOP of the additional Demo loss for the No Show.

What about a draw where you both did show up? (unlikely, but possible).. 1 pt each?

Sounds right. One point for showing up, second point for the win. No win, no second point for anybody.

Yeah, this sounds good to me but even a win via other playing No Showing should still be 2 points.

I really want this change now..

I'm sitting in 4th place in Div 5, but 2nd and 3rd place haven't fought a combat yet so my demo+ points are higher than theirs by a large margin.

I really hope that I don't lose my chance to get into Div 4 because the promotion spots got filled up with teams that never had to fight an encounter.

Prime example of why the scoring needs changed. Not only this, but they are getting cash rewards as well, and more then you who actually played.

OK, I'm going to make these changes now, effective immediately:

1. You now get 1 pt for showing up and losing
2. Your Demo-/Demo+ is affected by (max CR) rather than by (50), when you don't show
