Can a squad get jumped going from camp to town, down south

To clarify, can it be intercepted by another player? I'm talkin' south of the line here so flags aren't an issue.

I think the intercepting squad would have to be in the same camp, if it's possible at all.

Camp, yeah, I can see that, but how about the other end?

What about a town entry/exit encounter, if the intercepting gang was watching the town gates?

No form of "Entry/Arrival" interception is possible.

Agree with FF on the entry/arrival bit, per comments from Sam.

I haven't seen/tested in game but:

Pretty sure squads can be intercepted leaving town to go to camp.

I would guess that they can probably be interecepted leaving camp, but only by another squad at the camp.

The only way to do that, I think, would be to scout from camp looking for PvP. You would not be able to intercept someone from the lobby menu.

Yep, arrival encounters don't happen (it was too easy to watch someone do a scout and hit them in a weakened state as they returned).

In terms of travelling from town to camp, you should be interceptable as you leave town, as normal.

Travelling camp to town you should be immune, I think.
edit: PT is right: scouting would make it possible, but if it's travelling you're doing, you're safe going camp-to-town

Wait, why should traveling to camp make you immune, that makes no sense if it's just another gate exit encounter, isn't it?

It doesn't, read my post again  ;)
(Maybe I worded it confusingly)

It's clear. FF is just jonesing for another argument since the PvP poll thread died.

:)

Yeah, I simply read it wrong...
Oh well, since I'm going to the doctors in a day or two anyway I can ask him to check my brain while at it :p

Spanky and cosmic somehow intercepted a travel back in the day (That eventually caused the PvP flag to be implemented, because 3 people threw a conniption fit over it, and they actually "won" the fight).

as bounties can hit you on a return PVP should be able to also.

now that people cant see the cars in your squad or their condition there is no reason to prevent return PVP encounters or travel arrivals...

it is hard wnough to find a PVP encounter without excluding most of teh possible encounters...

as it stands a person can run a travel... have no encounters or truce every one... arrive with a mint squad and still avoid an encounter.

There's definitely something to that.

What if returns were interceptable, but only if the squad's CR is the same as it was when it went out? :stare:

Or interceptable so long as the CR is within 10-20% of original CR, which would allow for some damage from a chaser or terrain collisions.

Your cars can be pretty trashed and still be within 10-20%.... as long as you don't have destroyed weapons.  Plus if you salvage a bunch of vehicles in various states of disrepair they still bump up the CR.

Allowing a fresh squad to intercept one just coming back from a scout could be a slaughter.

Interceptable on return, interceptor suffers 25% CR penalty.

So the idea is sound but you don't like the numbers.  That should be easy to arrive at then...

There are a lot of things to consider.  I've had easy scouts where I've been in a good spot and easily demo'd the NPCs.  I've also been in others where I've driven home with a breached side and only a conscious driver.  A scout like that and an intercept by 2 peds throwing rocks is going to demo me.

Also there's the increase in the cost to truce with added loot cars.

Easiest way to make it fair is to allow intercepts on outbound squads only as it is currently.

I agree with Cadimus.
Jumping a squad on return is far too likely to be a one sided affair regardless of how you fiddle the CR. If we are going to implement this, why not do away with CR balancing altogether and just let the interceptor take whatever CR they like and pound the living crap out of anyone.
I'd take a whole, unmarred car over 2 or 3 beat up loot cars with twice the CR any day.

Besides, this change would do very little to actually increase the amount of PvP, just like the last one. Nevertheless, let's keep the ideas flowing!

Once again people who don't remember what actually happened when you could intercept returns and travel arrivals all have an opinion... ill informed... stupid... but why would that stop you putting it out there... after all... giving a voice to morons seems to be what the internet is all about.

I know it must be a pain dealing with people that forget things - but try to give a little latitude. Refresh our memories.

How were things back in the days of yore, and why did they change? I may have been around then but probably didn't pay attention to the chatter on the forums, as I had a job back then.

I can be swayed with reasonable arguments, although it's made more challenging when I have to look past all the ####in' 'tude that comes with this forum.

nothing happened.... the CR addition of armour is so great that very beat up squads if they got returns got small ones... you could still buy out...

frankly if you have really beat up loot you are very at risk from the AI in any case.

I remember one occasion where me and someone else caught a Latte / longo return with beat up Fts and they paid out... but frankly that seems reasonable...

had they met an AI ambush instead they might have lost a fire truck.

This is absolutely the point that nobody wants to hear... when PVP was fully open NOTHING HAPPENED.... people who want to PVP want harder fights.. want to lose sometimes... they are always the same people who champion other measures to make the AI harder. They are exactly the people who do not want to fight noobs and weak squads.

Its getting a bit boring repeating this, and it sounds like I am having a go at Sam which I am not, but all the changes were made because one person was behaving like a tit... He was being dealt with.

removing the ability to hit returns also removed the ability of players to self police against griefing by hitting the griefer when they were heading home. Its counter productive, ignores why most people want to make PVP easier.

I don't know any griefers in this game on the pro PVP side.. there has been some fairly extreme behaviour towards people who argue for easier pvp from the anti side (but even that I have not complained about because it does what i WANT ... makes the game more challenging).

It would certainly make you reconsider which loot cars to take home. (I'm awfully careful as it is, especially since the SS Militia doesn't seem to like me, much.)

A return encounter already pits a person against a group of a similar (greater?) CR. If an allowance for a PvP squad with similar, or slightly lower, numbers were allowed, it would be awfully hard to argue (with me, anyway) why it should be disallowed.

Thanks, I appreciate the replies. I see where you are coming from. Wont hear any more complaints from me about it.
