I'd like to put together a good ol' fashioned demolition derby. I'm imagining a bunch of Chevaliers, Symphonies, or similar vehicles with rams front and rear and 2L engines. I'd put up something as a prize... mebbe a fancy car or some cash or something to make it worthwhile, but mostly this'd be for the fun and chaos.
Maybe charge a smallish entry fee (say, $10k) and say everyone gets to keep their crappy car afterward, but the winner gets the crappy car AND everybody's money. I dunno, I'm thinking aloud here. Any tips to help get me on the road to making this a reality? |

The Paranoid Tourist Posted May 27, 2011, 10:28 pm |
Sounds like a blast to me. I think you've found the way to make it happen. Just have people who are interested post here, maybe with days/times that would work best.
OR just list whatever time it's going to be and start taking names. Make any limitations you might have on the vehicles/gangers/etc, as well. |
Jeelz Posted May 28, 2011, 7:07 pm |
Thebes would be happy to donate the cars and parts, and throw in something nice as a prize, too.
*JeeTeeOh* Posted May 29, 2011, 12:39 am |
Well now we've got gen-u-ine sponsorship!
So here are the rules as I imagine them: All cars (cheap sedans of some sort, probably Chevs) are fitted with rollcages, mid-sized engines (2L?) and mounted rams front/rear. Armor configuration can be customized by the participants, unless someone points out how the idea is seriously flawed. If a car's motor is destroyed it must resign immediately. Otherwise resignation is at the driver's discretion. No weapons on cars, no personal sidearms. One car per gang. Entry Fee: Jeelz, as you've so graciously offered to sponsor this little shindig I'll let you decide if an entry fee is required and if so, how much. Time/Date: TBD once we get cars assembled and such. So before we go much further the question becomes: Who's interested in participating? |
Jeelz Posted May 29, 2011, 12:52 am |
10k sounds fine, free for anyone who's been here less than 6 months. All funds will go towards prizes. Depending on the time, count me in!
Serephe Posted May 29, 2011, 2:34 am |
Destruction derbies don't seem to work so good since low speed rams do next to no damage even if the target doesn't have a rollcage... and seem to rely on the ram vehicle being heavier than the target (or just use spikes and hit it fast)
*JeeTeeOh* Posted May 29, 2011, 4:28 am |
Uh oh. That could complicate matters. Mebbe a big, exposed-engine derby is in order?
Jeelz Posted May 29, 2011, 5:28 am |
Currently got a dozen or so Chev's at Thebes we can drive in for the event - perhaps we could squeeze 3.2's into them and cover them with one-shot rockets (I've got a bucket of those on hand). Encourage peds to pack chainsaws and the such for some gory H-T-H fun when the heat is on and bailing out of the burning wreck seems slightly less dangerous than getting blown apart in an exploding vehicle. Perhaps we could aim for Friday or Saturday in two weeks time, should give us enough time to get the cars into town and enlist some more victims participants.
*Splash* Posted Jun 3, 2011, 7:16 pm |
If I'm around for it (50/50 chance) I'll definitely be there. But yeah, bigger cars would be better; a 2L symphony pushing around dual re-rams would take a week to get up to 40 mph...

Who wants to bet that Tuttle participates, gets the absolute crap thrashed out of him....yet still won't die?
*JeeTeeOh* Posted Jun 5, 2011, 5:03 pm |
So we've got quite a few Chevs now and I'm starting to set them up. Given the lack of damage produced by low impact collisions, armor won't be maxed out, or even close. It'll be fairly heavy front and rear with mounted rams, and only moderate on the sides. Maybe some light rockets to make things more interesting.
I'm trying to think of a time that's good for both sides of the planet, and of course that's impossible. The best I see is 20:00 server time, 19 June. If we went with that schedule for the first-ever (and possibly last-ever, depending) Somerset Ram-o-rama Demolition Extravaganza, who would be interested? ((Re: Junior Tuttle: If ever there were an event designed for a guy like that, it's this! Might as well just give ya first prize now.)) |
*Splash* Posted Jun 14, 2011, 12:45 am |
I could make that time, and yes, I'd be interested
*JeeTeeOh* Posted Jun 14, 2011, 3:38 pm |
Well that makes one. This event has been cancelled. Seems silly to put all the time and effort into outfitting a bunch of Chevaliers just to watch 'em sit on the arena floor unmanned. Mebbe we can just crash a couple cars into each other in the middle of a scout and call it even. Oh, wait, the way I drive we do that ALREADY. |
*Splash* Posted Jun 14, 2011, 11:23 pm |
No problem; I thought it was a good idea, and I'll sign up for ANY player created event, as I know how much trouble it is to make one up.
But yeah, it's not worth it in this case; we could just scout in Re-Ram cars to get our collison fix satisfied. |

Mr_Sinister Posted Jun 17, 2011, 7:00 pm |
Awww dang, I was all excited reading this post till i got to the bottom. :-(.
How bout we all get 4L re-ram C armor roll-cage Phos ready instead of chevs? You can do some decent damage with one of those when you get to speed, they're relatively heavy. Also, if you hit right you can even red the other guy, what's a post apocalyptic demo derby without a little danger? I've already got one I use as a ramcar, can only fit two re-rams, so it'll be your choice wether 2-front, or 1 front and 1 back. If you already have all the parts it'll cost you nothing. If you had to buy them off the SS marketplace it would only run about 50k(give or take) to make your very own. If we can get a hand-ful of people to make one of these we'd have an event on our hands once again. Let's keep this demolition derby alive. |

I seem to have missed this the first time round.
Count me in if it ever ressurects! Jim |
Mr_Sinister Posted Jun 17, 2011, 7:08 pm |
Actually "relatively heavy" is an understatement. I just double checked what the Ram-pho actually weighs and it tops out at 7000 without a driver. It's heavier than my apaches, and it still gets up to speed.
*JeeTeeOh* Posted Jun 18, 2011, 4:59 pm |
This may be a better idea. Keep it informal. Everybody who's interested builds a car and we go from there. The phoenix idea isn't half bad....
I'll start building one. 4L and rerams, eh? ON IT. |
Serephe Posted Jun 18, 2011, 6:51 pm |
Sunrises or buccies valid choices in vehicle? Hate the phoenix with a passion.
Mr_Sinister Posted Jun 18, 2011, 7:49 pm |
Yeah I suppose sunrises and buccys would be valid. Jee whatya think? I picked phos simply cause they're cheap and more readily available tham any other muscle. Would sunrise or buccy give any kind of advantage vs pho? Or more a matter of driving style and taste?
Ironmoose Posted Jun 18, 2011, 8:07 pm |
sunrise is a whopping 100 pounds lighter than the pho, but it seems to handle a little looser which i like.
Serephe Posted Jun 18, 2011, 8:38 pm |
Yeah that's why I like the sunrise -- buccaneers though are a bit quicker, and handle way better, which would probably make them a bit easier to ram with -- sunrise/pho are more even I'd think.
*Slippery Jim* jim@slipperyjim.com Posted Jun 18, 2011, 8:43 pm |
OK - so 4L Sunrise it is?
Jim |
Serephe Posted Jun 18, 2011, 8:47 pm |
I reckon we could use both sunrise and phoenix -- it'd be quite fair, and allows people to use what they have based on availability/preference. A little variety is a good thing.
That said, due to time constraints I'm not even sure if I can make it. |

Mr_Sinister Posted Jun 18, 2011, 10:30 pm |

lol, group ram scout. I think allot of those little nimble cars would eventually chew us up.
*JeeTeeOh* Posted Jun 19, 2011, 3:56 pm |
Only one way to find out.... |
*JeeTeeOh* Posted Jun 19, 2011, 4:01 pm |
Okay, so let's say 4L muscle ram-a-rama.
Let's keep it to Phoenix and Sunrise. Keep it to the low-end muscles first time out, and if it's a winner then mebbe we can open it up a bit. No motor bigger than a 4L, and no weapons except rams. Rollcage encouraged but not required. Maximum armor 50 per vehicle or we could be driving in circles all night. Sound like a plan? This is no longer my event, it's OUR event, so let's sort it out together.... |
*Splash* Posted Jun 20, 2011, 12:40 am |
Sounds good, I'll dump the armor down to 50 (yikes!)
Mr_Sinister Posted Jun 20, 2011, 12:47 am |
Good idea with the armor, should only take a couple good shots to knock anyone out. should we keep the armor type open? a heavier car would give you a damage giving advantage, but lighter armor a maneuverability. I think its a decent trade off and could be left open. What do you all think?
*JeeTeeOh* Posted Jun 21, 2011, 11:38 pm |
Yeah, I say whatever armor you like. Agreed that the dis/advantages will balance out.
Serephe Posted Jun 22, 2011, 2:58 am |
Dropping armor means dropping weight which means less damage. What's the weight left on a 50 armor car?
Jeelz Posted Jun 22, 2011, 3:47 am |
bit of stone for ballast, perhaps?
Mr_Sinister Posted Jun 22, 2011, 5:24 am |
Pho or Sunny with a 4L and 2 re-rams doesnt leave room for hardly any stone, if any. With C armor and 50 points of armor its still over 6000. A reduction in armor only has a minimal effect on the weight, as most of the wieght comes from the chassis, engine, and 2 re-rams.
I dont think 50 armor will reduce the deadliness if it, but it will certainly reduce it's staying power. I'm all for 50 armor max, distributed where you please. Jsut remember to give yourself enough on the front. Cause if that runs out you're essentially done... |
Joel Autobaun Posted Jun 22, 2011, 10:01 pm |
Honestly this will end quick with that setup - which i'm ok with....
JS Posted Jun 22, 2011, 10:41 pm |
Really, you should just go with 1 Re-Ram, full B armor and 4L. This allows for decent speed, maneuver and good hitting capability. It would be much more interesting if it was a bit of a tactical affair anyway. With that set up, head ons at any decent speed will knock out cars anyway. Leave the Roll Cage out if you want more danger for teh occupants and you have a great demo derrby and demo derby car.
Ironmoose Posted Jun 22, 2011, 11:18 pm |
I have Rammy setup sitting in my garage. all i need now is a time and a place to ram some stuff.
Mr_Sinister Posted Jun 24, 2011, 4:59 am |
Well I like the idea of leaving room for some variation amongst everyone. Even if after jsut one or two events a best set up emerges, but who knows. So how's this:
Pho or Sunny 4L 1 or 2 rerams. 50 armor max distributed as you please. armor type optional. Tire type optional. Roll cage optional, but recommended. Let me know if i missed anything. |

*JeeTeeOh* Posted Jun 25, 2011, 3:44 pm |
Engine restriction: 4L max Chassis restriction: Sunrise/Phoenix Armor: 50pts Rollcage: Not a bad idea Rams: No more than one per side. Rules: 1. No weapons. No ped weapons. Your weapon is an equation: Force = Mass x Acceleration. 2. If engine is disabled you must resign immediately. No sitting there making other guys trash their cars to finish you off. Prize: I'll put up $50k, winner take all. If anybody else would like to donate to sweeten the pot, that's cool too. Did I miss anything? Hmmmmm, what's a good day? Sundays are usually best for me in terms of flexibility. Or I can go any day if we do it around 0600-0800 server time. Let's start talking schedule! |
Mr_Sinister Posted Jun 28, 2011, 6:36 pm |
Ok, definately time to come up with a date. I'm garunteed available weekends in the day time. Not too early, and not too late please. Perhaps July 9th or 10th?
What time zone are all of our participants in btw? I'm in Central US time. |
*JeeTeeOh* Posted Jun 29, 2011, 5:07 am |
Nevermind time zones. Everyone who wants to participate just list the following: What day is better? Saturday/Sunday What times (SERVERTIME) are best for you? Then we're all in the same time zone. It's just on the other side of the planet. |
Crayola Posted Jun 30, 2011, 4:04 am |
Might just be easier for everyone who would like to enter, should a build a car for it & then we could host events when a 3-4+ people are on. because I dont do well with set times, I lead a busy life for a 20 year old.
