I tried moving my gang to Elmsfield. I fought there quite successfully, but after my first scout, my BPU, with A armor, that took about 6 points of damage, took 30k to repair.
All of my good combat cars are fitted with A armor also, so I knew that there was no way I was going to make a profit in Elms, so I moved back to Somerset.
So now, I'm thinking about Gateway. What kind of place is it? How are the returns there, and how many cars would you find if you sent out a squad of two apaches? I wanna find out a bunch of stuff about it before moving there.

It's fun. You will get ambushed on returns. They will be fun and you'll likely die if you're not careful.

GW has one of the toughest Gates maps in the game. With the exception of one very close spawn point(which you seldom get), you have a long way to travel to the safety of town, the maps contain alot of open territory, and the gangs are usually pretty high famed. If you like using A armored vehicles, I would suggest Sarsfield or Texan to scout as a armor can be repaired cheap here. Loot will also sell cheaply however. Sarsfield is quite similiar in difficulty to GW, also with a difficult Gates map, whereas Texan is a bit harder to scout, but the Gates map is a bit more friendly IMHO.

I'd say that Gateway is the most dangerous and least profitable areas to scout. Hats off to anyone who does it regularly there.

MY advice to you for GW:

1. Mount rear weapons: Since pirate-to-player vehicle ratio is not in your favor, running and gunning is the best way to survive. Remember with rear-mounted weapons you get a penalty for moving away from the direction you're firing in: use highly skilled gunners.

2. Mount slightly smaller weapons: This will allow you to haul more reloads. I recommend about 4 per weapon -if possible- and never less than 2.

3. Know when to run: don't use up your 'return ammo' to get those extra kills in the main encounter... you'll regret it on the return.

4. It's not about loot: You won't want to worry about a beat up loot car on a return encounter. Focus on hero points as they'll get you better equipment anyway.

5. Bring one escort with front-mounted weapons: This is more of a personal preference, but I like to bring a front-mounted vehicle that doesn't participate in the main encounter. I keep all his ammo and armor for the return, in case things get hairy.

---

Currently I run one crew in GW. I use one LandRunner with a rear-mounted car cannon and no second rear-mounted weapon. That extra bulk lets me carry a huge amount of CC reloads. My second vehicle is a standard rear-mounted dual HMG LandRunner with two gunners and as many reloads as I can carry. My third vehicle is a front-mounted dual MMG LandRunner that runs during the main encounter and turns to fight if there is a return while my two rear-mounted vehicles stay at range and provide support fire.

I've tried twice to resettle in Gateway, both attempts ended with a dead leader.

It's certainly fun, but the gates map and frequent return combo basically means you have to play for the return.

The AI crews are better, and bring better equipment. That means harder fights, but also better loot.

For comparison, I really enjoy scouting out of Sarfield - I like the maps and the difficulty is a good level for my lazy style of play. My main impediment is hauling everything down there. Elmsfield is too scare and Badlands... not a fan of combat scouts on those maps. I haven't really scouted much out of Texan or Firelight.

Hmm, I shall aim for Texan as a place to relocate, then. Just, I need to rustle up some more good gangers.  ;)

The Hero market spawns some excellent goods there also. You will not be disappointed.

never did that.. just used a pair of front mounted apaches RL/HMG and CC/GG.

hunting the 400 fame gangs on a short scout you typically turn up a blackstone, razor, BPU, pulv so there is good loot out there. I met 4 cutlasses and a buzzer doing this as well and several texan strongarms.

just kill the other 5 or 6 cars to red and loot the one good one intact.

thats about knowing your maps and getting the bad guys stuck.
