A turn based dogfighting game, or aerial combat focused, It "could" be awesome.
Anyone of you must surely have thought something like this at least once?

I know not many people would like it, but it would be cool to use some kind of WWII era plane in this game, strafing with MGs, or just to see how the engine would handle it.
(What can I say, I like to dream)

Reminds me of playing Total War, I thought if they would move it into the musket era, and they did with empire :)

well that's why you now see WWII skins in the wild, we for a while ran some gentlemen's dogfighting events ( sadly they ground to a halt ) and goat supplied some excellent skins, which he then donated to sam

There was a very good 2D turn based ww2 plane combat game: Achtung Spitfire.

The company that wrote it is now known as Battlefront.com, and are the creators of Combat Mission, that has been a (unused) source of inspiration to propose Fog of War for Darkwind. :)

Ah yes... the Gentleman's Dogfighting Club was my baby: I supplied a couple dozen cars, and Goat supplied some excellent skins (with more being made by others), but it pretty much dissapated after a couple events due to:

1) Me getting promoted at work, which killed my free time.
(remember when we were young, and thought promotion was something other than just getting more work put on your desk?)

2) The implementation of Darkwind: Tactical. (remind me to push Sam to allow custom skins in Tactical).

Back to the OP, I always wondered how the engine / game would handle aircraft. It'd have to be something pretty basic / slow (WWI era), otherwise the scale would be so far off it'd make combat difficult.

Torque does handle flying vehicles, actually (not sure how well). I had vague plans to have a gyrocopter like in mad max

Would that mean there would also be plans for some kind of "Top" mounted AA guns?

Thinking one of those quad barreled things.

That is what I thought of to, would be fun to try to get the right "angle" to strafe your opponent.
