I was travelling from Gateway to SS in an unarmed pickup I used for couriers. The map was the ruined highway map, my first time on it. I was facing two phoenix's.

Looking around the map, it doesn't have the type of terrain I've been used to working in, very flat.

At the start, I had to turn behind some ruins to break LOS and managed to lose one of the Phoe's there. After that I was bound for the desert, hoping I could shake the other.
I couldn't. With some stylish shake and bake (and a lot of praying) I managed to live through the other Phoe's attacks until he ran out of ammo.

I've got a bit of engine damage, we're in close range with one another, and I've got no way to outrun this guy. I spend a few minutes trying to flip him by ramming him in a turn. Waste of time. I try to get some distance between us by driving up and down the few hills. Waste of time.

Now I'm at a loss for ideas, so I send a "help me" to the lobby describing my situation. Instantly, 3 good samaritans join the event and begin giving me advice. It takes a good 10 minutes, but I finally get on the road with the phoe in tow, and discover that if I get to high speed and E-brake hard, he spins way to my front left off the road. I continue a bit until I get to a spot with a bit of a hill on that left side and do it again. Up and down he goes, losing all kinds of speed and giving me time to get 311 meters of seperation. But now he's back up to speed and beginning to gain. I drift off the road to the right this time (there are some small terrain features on that side) and manage to get him to take flying lessons, giving me a satisfying win.

I wish I could remember the names of the 3 gents who helped me out and cheered me on. You guys saved me a ganger and a truck I couldn't afford to replace.

I run 2 seperate unarmed pickups as well....

I dread it when I see "2 x pheonix, 2 x sunrise"... I've had the same thing happen several times. They just somehow keep chsing you, and chasing you.

Even the out of ammo thing, had apheonix chase me up and down hills...trying to ram him into the valley and whatnot....

You just gotta keep running and asking yourself, why? why did I just spend 45 minutes running this silly unarmed pickup away from 4 musclecars....

Cause of the 140 cargo cap :D

Seriously though, I run pickups all the time, and they not so bad.

And yeah I outrun muscles sometimes.  Just that some maps are a lot harder than others..

I used to have hell of time on Once Upon Town with pickups until I realized that the dummies would follow me up on the rocks..  and gates of Elmsfield is still a royal hemorrhoid for a pickup escape, but most duney sandy maps is easy enough.

Just like any courier run though, you gotta be prepared to lose it all before you risk it, 'cause that's really the bottom line.

What you ended up doing is a good tactic.

Remember that cars don't handle well at high speed, and that your pursuers have to react to your actions. You can use this to steer them into rocks, trees, cacti, buildings, or rough terrain. Even if it doesn't wreck them, it will often slow them enough that you can get away.

An important running tip - if you get a head-on encounter, don't do a U-turn. It will burn off too much speed. Instead, head off to either side, eventually making your way back to the main road / path.

for the scenario above i would bring ped a ped rifle or smg for when they are out of ammo, or make room for 1 mg to finish the last car chasing you

the guys are absolutely right.. once the enemy is out of ammo... kill them with ped weapons.. it doesnt reduce your available bulk for transport to be carrying a couple of rifles or smgs

Ask yourself what's more important:

A $30000 p/u with courier load.

A ganger you don't want to lose, or:

$500 less reward for that courier run?

Lose the Pickups, make $500 less, get Voyagers/Windsor II's and SPIKE DROPPERS!

Problem solved.

Good luck.
